Futaba Receiver Not Working?

Real quick question to get your experience on a brand new Futaba receiver (R124H). It seems to not be working. I'm sending it back and getting a replacement, both of crystal (ch.15) and rec. I had tested an older receiver and crystal and everything worked with the older one, but nothing happened with the newer receiver. The old one is a Hitec 555, RCD 8200. the Tx is a 1997 vintage Futaba. In all my years of flying, I've never had a bad receiver/crystal. Is there something I'm missing? I have a Castle Age 18 ESC on it. Perhaps there's some new configuration that I'm not aware of? Or could it be that it's actually just bad? (I also switched out the new crystal with the old and the only combination that worked was the old crystal -old rec.)
I wouldn't put it past me just not being aware of some subtle change in electronics since I'd been out of the hobby between 2003 - 2009.

Sounds like you did a good job and checked everything out. Things break and fail sometimes, no matter who makes it. Send it back and get the replacement.

Unless there are versions I don't know about:
Hitec 555 RX is dual conversion FM receiver.

Futaba R124H is single conversion AM receiver.

AFAIK transmitters are either FM or AM, never both. So there's no chance at all that both Rxs will work with the same transmitter.

Slipstick: BINGO! That is it exactly! I KNEW it was something I wasn't paying attention to - when I got it I lazily said to myself 'I could have sworn both my radios are FM, but since I don't see an FM kind, I'll just get the AM.'
