Default A funny, yet true, explanation of our hobby?

Our Hobby's Status Explained!
Some may wonder what I'm doing stuck in the house through no fault of my own, and reading the comics instead of building model aircraft.

Easy!

The 'comics' taught me much of what I needed to know about America when I moved here, plus they are mostly funny anyway. I've read them since sub'ing to the Washington Post in January 1994 and still dive into the comics section first thing every morning, though now its the Chicago Tribune.

My wife of nearly 24 years came in a package deal with a couple of those strange 'children' things and the elder one has recently produced a couple of new Very Short People of his own (with some help, I understand).

Exposure to this has lead to my realising that the 'Baby Blues' cartoon strip is, in fact, reality with humour tossed in for free (or for the cost of a sub to the Chicago Tribune in my case ).

Anyway, go here:
http://www.arcamax.com/thefunnies/babyblues/s-948456

It's to 'Baby Blues' on 19 September, 2011, and hence subsequent ones. Once there, and once you've either stopped laughing, being indignant or possibly just confused, press the 'next' button. The theme was still running today - 22 September 2011 - and may go on for a few more days, though Sundays are usually 'independents'.

A facet of American life that's dearer than many others was explained, with humour, to this 'furriner'. Well, English hyphen American. I think that classes as 'furrin'...

Enjoy (hopefully )!

There are a few comics I looks forward to following, either hard copy when I get home or on line as I have time, Baby Blues is one that is usually good, especially with the extra relevance thrown in

I love comic strips. My alltime favorites ar Dennis The Menace, Blondie & Beetl Bailey. In my opinion they just ruined Batman with all this Darkness now in the story. What wrong with (POW, BIFF, SLAM & KAPOW)??? I even read my kids comic books. I have a collection of Classic Comics. On the other hand really what is more fun than making babies. I have 3 boys that show I love that pastime.

Being older and now retired, one comic I like is "Shoe".

yup, Baby Blues, Shoe, but mostly Dilbert: the Perfect Analysis of the business world. And Zits can be the very best insight into the workings of a Teen mind ever! Jerry Scott is a comic genius; the only time Nancy was ever funny was when he took it over for a couple of years...

Sure I read the comics first, I grew old without growing up.

Ah Yes, Dilbert
I worked with a lot of those type guys before retiring! Long ago we also had a "Andy Capp" in our department. Empty vodka bottles showed all over the place.

What has always amazed me is how these writers / artists accumulate so much of this stuff.

Zits, Dilbert, BB - all, I either figure or am told, are constantly true to form.

Andy Capp would never be found drinking vodka! Maybe an odd Scotch at Christmas, then muttering about 'it's not as good a pint'. Am almost Andy Capp's grandson...

Today could be the end of our tale in BB though.

And you knew the out come as soon as you saw the first strip.
Rekitted!!!

When I die, I want to go like my Grandfather did, in his sleep...... Not screaming like the passengers in his plane.

LOL
I once had a "Pint" of Guiness in Ireland on a business trip about 10 years ago. As a person that does not drink much, that pint just about put me under the table

As indeed it could! The more usual route was for Americans to mistake warm-ish British beer for something weak. When I flew in the RAF, we never, ever mentioned that to US visitors

And yes, BB seems to have ended up predictably enough.

Dont forget Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbs loved these comics from the moment I saw them

Happy flying may your crashes be limited and if they are not limited let them be cool.

I wasn't heavy into Peanuts, but Calvin & Hobbes as well as Larson were priceless...

Guinness was good, and I drank that in the UK until someone introduced me to Mild; never drank Guinness again. None of those drinks gave me the hangover I used to get with domestic beers, and I gave them every opportunity!
