Default New Guanli A6M5 Zero build, from Nitro Planes

Sooooooo the Big Brown Truck just dropped off my next project. It's been a LONG time since I have had an prepainted ARF to play with.......I am looking forward to putting this one together.
I am going to implement a few mods on this one.......remove the stick mount, will make a proper firewall mount.....need to enlarge the battery bay for something a bit bigger than the 1000 3s that barely fits now & research some opinions that the plane is terribly tail heavy with the suggested power setup .

Is it done yet Ray JK, use the biggest motor you can get into the cowel, that will help the tail heavy issue, I always use the biggest motor that will fit, just for that reason, i hate to add dead weight, i would rather have the needed weight be the Motor Have fun, Chellie

Thanks Chellie
Yeah, I already read where the mfg recommends using the included 80gr (!!!) clay ballast as far in the nose as possible....LOL, no thank you..haha.
Using a heavier 450 size motor AND making room in the battery bay to use a little heavier battery will solve it.....I think, at least it will give me more perf and run time!!
No worries though.
Trying to keep the plane as light as possible AND CG it correctly is quite a juggling game sometimes! LOL

OK.....got a few things out of the way and we're workin' on the Zero again now
First thing I noticed was the tail wheel assy was supposed to be steerable BUT there was so much slop in the wire mount that I couldn't see leaving it! haha......So I dug through my parts bins and came up with a much sturdier way. Using a small piece of lite ply as a base and the Dubro 40 size (yeah sounds HUGE for a 35" ws plane.....) tailwheel and steerable mount I dug out a little trench for the ply mount to sit in.

I like a plane I can take off and land AND then taxi back to my pit area......I think it's just showing off though....LOL.

...working further on the battery bay area.....this model is well known for it's tail heavy build using the stock equip, so by opening this area up to except heavier batteries I can avoid those exciting maiden's....lol.
I used some simple craft sticks (lite ply type) to reinforce the new battery mount.

..a few more of the fuse mods....the battery can now be anything from a 1000 30c 3s to 1800 40c 3s, whatever it needs to balance correctly.
