Home made skis for my parkflyer?

So I dont feel like ordering dubro skis right now for my beat up parkflyer. I decided to throw something together with some garbage foam pieces that I had laying around the garage.

Do you think this will work on the powdery snow? Or probably strictly just on hard stuff like ice and snow that's been sitting long enough to be hardened..?

I ask that because I didn't make the front of them swing up like dubro skis are.

From what i've learned about floats and ski's... i'm betting they will likely grab into the snow if it isn't hard/packed. but it's all I had to work with right now on a free budget.

Everything over here is all hard as a rock so I figured it would do the job until I order my next much larger parkflyer and float kit come spring. If you can consider a 40 size plane still a parkflyer.

I'm shooting for Hangar 9's 40 size J-3 cub with matching floats. Probably with an Eflite Power 42 to power it all. Unless maybe i'm better off going with a Power 60 equivalent for extra power to ROW well.

I'm open to suggestions on that as well.

Actually... I think maybe the 25 size will be better for me so I can still fly in those smaller spots that a 40 size cant go.

A 65 inch wingspan vs the 80 inch wingspan.

Yeah, that sounds more like what I want. And not too bad on the price either.

Is the Power 25 good enough for this bird with the fiberglass floats? Or should I upgrade to something with a little more torque? I can always order a motor/esc from hobbycity for a fraction of the price. I already have 12X6 props.

That's a nice airplane.float combo but you might want to consider a 32 instead of a 25. Floats are heavier than wheels and have a LOT more drag in the air. In addition, if you do ever fly off water the water's surface tension "pulls" on the floats WAY more that grass does on rolling wheels.

That's what I was thinking as well. I will likely get a hobbycity equivalent of a Power 32. Probably going to get a few Lipo packs in the 3200-3500mah range while i'm at it. I have an E-Max 60A (switch mode bec) ESC that I can use for it as well.

I took a look at the specs on the H9-J3 and that is about an 8 pound airplane with floats.

You ought to be looking at about 100 watts per pound (Sport aerobatic and fast flying scale) to be sure you have enough to get this baby off the water/snow/wet grass on floats. That requirement will need a Power 42 (925 watts), not a 32.

This airplane has a lot of room and can carry a bigger battery so you might want to consider a 4,000mAh, 4S. Just be sure the motor you get can handle the voltage.

Weather permitting, Im going to test my home-made skis on my trainer either tomorrow or the day after.

Just an update,

I'm ordering everything next weekend!

As for the home-made skiis on my trainer, they worked pretty good for take offs, but landings were a pain because it kept wanting to nose over.

It did the job though. Now the weather is warming back up slowly but surely, so its all about wheels and floats again until NEXT winter rolls around.

that power system you orderd is the same one that I've orderd for my h9 ultra stick .60 just so you know I have a power32 motor from heads up rc on a T34 mentor from eflite and w/12x6 4s 5000 mah battery pulling 540 watts just something to think about thanks,chris

They have that Power 32 motor rated up to 840W. I wish Jeff would get the prop specs up for some of the newer motors he has listed on his site. It's the ONLY thing holding me back from ordering from him right now. I like to have a good idea what i'm working with (electronically speaking) on a build.

Normally I do at least 80% of my rc shopping through him. Can't beat his prices and shipping. And his customer service is top rate!

I wonder if the Power 46 would be just too ridiculous?

I agree bomb drop thats why I went HK this time but I think that power 32 is going to fly my t34 well I may have to take it up to a 12x8 prop but we'll see right thanks,chris
