Just to keep it interesting, and to test your knowledge please try and guess the manufacture and model of the mystery aircraft. I will post some pics later when the airframe is progressing. I should shoot myself for starting another project but it sounded like a fun idea at the time & I want to make this project at a much larger scale in the future! I’ll rename the post upon successful identification Cheers & have fun guessing, Dave |

Hello all,
Some clues: Only one aircraft was ever made and it could do something very unique. It is also an aircraft that can take off from the sea or land. Verwendung Triebwerk Startleistung spannweite 405.511in größte Länge Flügelfläche Höhenleitwerkfläche größte Höhe über größte Länge 399.60 in ![]() Rüstgewicht zuladung fluggewicht Two data points in full scale Imperial units, units were orignially metric. Will post some pics of the half model soon. Cheers, Dave

I for one can't wait to see this one. Just one of the many over engineered and overly complicated designs the Germans were famous for.
But as a model it should be a stunner. I'm assuming you'll mount an outrunner at the back rather than burying it inside the fuselage and using a long prop shaft. pictures and vids. We want it all. Lol. |

Ok, what was the thinking behind the adjustable thrust line? Can't imagine there would be enough benefit to warrant the extra weight and complexity. I never would have thought of that one; talk about a unique project! Can't wait to see this one come together. John.

The 3rd view
FYI, the wing tip sponsons (lower half are removable). It looks as if the motor may have to be offset from the output shaft, not a big issue. The prop has an expected 3-4 deg down angle in the stowed position Cheers, Dave |

After a bit of figuring and much thought I have settled on 3/16 scale.
Wing area is aprox. 757 in Wing span is aprox 74 in I have grown fond of making half models and they are quite enjoyable to carve. In the interest of time I will be making a half model a bit proud. Upon completing this model it is my hope to glue up the opposing side and glue them together to form a plug. This build must be inexpensive so a bit of creative scavenging needs to be in order. Old printers and computers may be able to supply some of the needed parts to fabricate the drive train. I find these gems at the local rubbish/recycling center for free. While the parts look exciting, some of the items will not be of any value. Notice the free ferrite beads... great for noise suppression! Cheers, Dave

Regrettably, I must withdraw from the festivities, after printing out the plan I have come to the conclusion that it will be impossible to do this for $100.00 or less.
I believe AXI 4120 motor, a motor I have owned for some time… I think is more that the price limits. I will still be building the model as it is a very special aircraft that I believe needs to be built. Follow along if you like, it will be a slow build now as I have to many irons in the fire ![]() On a side note... I am in the process of purchasing a Laser cutting system, I forsee reasonable priced short kits on the horizon. ![]() Dave ![]() |

Thanks guys,
The DO-212 I believe will be a truly special aircraft when complete. I was hoping to quickly carve the half model and take off the lines and directly transfer the data to balsa. It became obvious upon printing the profile view the size of the power plant required will put this aircraft over the price limit; other knock off motors are available but I do not believe it would be enough. I do believe it is possible to build the airframe for less than $100, I have a crate of balsa that I have been using over the last 10 years and this aircraft I believe would have put a little dent in it. I am excited about the purchase of the laser; it should expedite the tapered and elliptical wing manufacturing process, and it will also keep me away from the band-saw. I also despise dust so it will be a great joy using it. My true passion is recreating these rare and unique aircraft. I look forward to gluing this blank up and fairing its lines. Cheers (a sucker for starting another lofty project), Dave ![]() |
