FPV Forum Area?

Where is the forum for FPV? Does WF have one? If not, can we get one?

I think FPV is not quite the same as AP or AV and should have its own forum if it does not already. I do believe this is the fastest growing segment of the RC industry.

+1 vote. I recently got into FPV and it was difficult to find information.

I do wonder how the new FAA regulations will affect FPV... FPV may not be growing fast for much longer! Get your FPV stuff while you still can!

One of my club members had his plane set up for FPV. It was totally awesome! Even had my son showed some interest in that and he hasn't shown much interest in RC at all.

Any WattHeads out there have a basic wiring diagram of a real time fpv setup IE camera, antenna, laptop computer Rx, TX? I not an electronic engineer and am looking for a basic system.
I do have a small camera, TX (2.4, 9 volt) and a Rx (9-12 volts)which is 2.4 as well. Any links or assistance would be greatly appreciated,....

I just don't see making a new forum for so few people and posts. If it was really that popular the AP forum would be flooded with posts about this topic and it's not. They could just change the name of the current forum to also cover FPV.

I agree -- FPV is big. Those who are not currently doing it, WANT to do it -- they just don't know how.

A FPV forum would help educate them.

The problem with most analog (or "standard") gauges is that they take up WAY too much space on your screen. I use Eagle Tree's OSD Pro, and it has some nice ANALOG features (like the altitude ladder, heading ladder, and airspeed ladder).

Well I think the difference is that RCG has an FPV forum and WF doesn't.

No skin off my back if WF does or doesn't get one. Why should I care? I'm not getting anything back from WF growing or not growing.

But, my concern is promoting model aviation and I think FPV is pushing model aviation toward a huge growth spurt. Having another forum like WF with a FPV section could only help not hurt.

Growth spurt, with some interesting growing pains.

I have been noticing a certain element with the new FPV pilots. It tends to draw in the types of pilots that think only of themselves and find the existing rc community guidelines to be at best restrictive, and at worst disdainful to the point of needing to be disregarded.

I'm not talking about any one person in specific.

The thought was most recently reinforced by the replies to a thread over on RCG.

Unless you're intentionally flying FPV in intentionally provocative ways, then there should be no reason for this to be taken personally.

Well, I understand it wasn't about me -- it's just the way you said it. (Something to the effect that ALL FPV pilots fit into two categories -- those who are a menace to society, and those who are really dangerous.)

I try to pick my words carefully, but am not always as articulate as I wish to be.

When I said element of new pilots, this was to say, some, not all new pilots have taken an extreme standpoint on being asked to follow established rules of RC flying.

This doesn't mean there's two groups of black and white, there's the extremists that think everyone flying besides them, is a menace to society, and then there's plenty of people that fall somewhere in between.

As usual, it's the voices at either end of the spectrum that tend to make the most noise. I think it's up to those of us that are in between, to speak up now and again, to try to bring some balance to the equation.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. Communication is funny -- it's always challenging to be understood.

Communication is actually a two-way street, the communicator needs to take care to say what he means, but the LISTENER needs to take care to really make an attempt to figure out what the communicator is saying. So, miscommunication is not entirely the communicator's fault! (Listeners don't like hearing that!)

I used to be labeled as one of those "anti-AMA" guys. I always thought that label was unfair -- I did not think I was "anti-AMA", but somehow I must have given off that vibe...

Ever since I joined the AMA (three years ago), suddenly people stopped calling me "anti-AMA" -- nothing else changed. (I still say the same things, and fly the same way.)

In any event, I think FPV can be simple (safe) fun, or it can be misused to cause destruction.

But we could say exactly the same thing about RC in general.

I don't think FPV pilots are any different from regular RC pilots -- it's the same 1% who make the noise.

Maybe a supporting argument will help.
What you can see using FPV after a little reflection tape a light system and ground layouts.
Maybe see if you can have a dogfight with a few of them
Maybe add a infra red system for dogfights to show hits on one another
Maybe add ground system that will simulate air to ground attacks with the same reflective tape used with rubber bands to show the FPV pilot what it look like when flying around at a field
What you can see in the dark…

I am guessing he might have been confused as to what the reason for the thread was, and offered some ideas for FPV activities.
