AirField RC warbirds?

Anyone flying AirField RC warbirds? They look nice....

One of our club members brought his new Spitfire to the club meeting tonight. He has not flown it yet but it looks pretty darned nice!

The plastic guns and covers of the gear wires looks a bit toyish but overall it's a good looking model. If it flies as good as it looks it will be worth the money they sell them for.

cool! i was looking at nitro planes .com and they are offering the corsair and i just love the grey color scheme even though its a bit expensive...is the foam, paint, motor, and ESC (if he bought the ARF or the RTF version) of good quality?

Yeah the foam looks nice, paint looked good on it. I could not see the motor or ESC as I was kind of rushed leaving but Jerry seems pretty impressed with the overall package.

I have both the P40 and BF109. I like them so much i'm gonna pick up all the rest in the series.
That being said, you have to play with the cg to get to perform well.

I just got the Yellow F4U Corsair (800mm) by AirField... Very nice looking plane with nice scale detail. Now I just got to wait for this 25+ mph winds to stop, it's been like this for over 2 weeks!!!!

I know it could probably handle the wind, but i never like taking that chance on a maiden flight not knowing the planes habits and all

I have put new meaning to the words "Go Vertical"... my wife went into my study room yesterday and came out yelling that i need to get all my planes (x6) off the floor in there because she can't walk around without stepping on one.

Today she came out yelling "What have you done!" since i mounted them all to the ceiling with hooks and rope...!!!

I have the Airfield/FMS 1400mm Spitfire.

I have one brief flight on it - one 360 around the field before I lost control and it went inverted and dove into the ground leaving a 5 inch crater.

Bent prop shaft, boken spinner, prop, and cowl, back fuselage broken off behind the wings and front fuselage split in two.

Went like stink at full throttle with lead in the nose to move the CofG forward to 80mm instead of the ridiculous 100mm from the leading edge in the instructions.

The reason I lost it was because the elevator was WAY too sensitive, took me by surprise, and I never recovered in time...

I'm new here. But I have the 800mm Airfield P-51 (blue nose) which I have yet to fly due to winds and...well....newb cowardice.

But after experiencing the smooth, easy flying of the PZ UM T-28 Trojan, I decided to get the Airfield version of the T-28. I've watched the video countless times and believe it will be as smooth a flyer as the PZ big T-28.

UPS says it'll be here Friday. After getting used to that 31.5-inch flyer, maybe I'll feel better about handling the squirrelly P-51 (blue nose).

BTW, Airfield just posted photos of the new grey US Navy version. (I got the red.) It is really nice!

BUY THEM. i have 2 and they are great. their recomended CG is a bit off, which by what ive heard runs the whole product line. My Two 800mm warbirds fly best with a AA battery pushed into the slot where the Motor/ESC wires run behind the cowl. and they fly smooth. Without it its like flying a drunken squirrel. in all, well worth the money, look good and durable.

If you can buy 2 planes(if your buying kits) do it, Airfield and NP are not very good with ANY spare parts, everything is on infinite backorder!!

i buy the kits and use parts purchased from other vendors such as motors etc. so i dont have to worry about the stock stuff

I learned real quick to buy kits also, to bypass all the crappy stock parts.
Plus you learn how everything works alot faster when you do the electronics and motor, anyone can glue everything together and fly.

I have the 750mm P-47, and am having a lot of fun! I can certainly vouch for the durability, as I've had some bad crashes straight down, and only needed epoxy to get it back up and flying. At least with the P-47, you definitely want to add weight to the front to help balance it out. Hard to beat these figuring the price.

Agree on the tough to find parts. I'm using cheap GWS props since I broke the stock 3 bladed one. Fun note though, with the 8x6 slow flier prop, it makes a pretty neat buzzing noise in a fast dive.

I've heard of the AA battery ballast tip, but never utilized it in my P-51. I thought I'd get her up and attempt to trim it out before slapping some weight up front, but since I can't even get it to ROG without squirreling all over the place and then crashing. (Same with hand-launching.) Maybe I should stuff a batt in there and try it again.

I noticed that Nitroplanes seems to take care of the screaming mad customers and they almost ignore the nice requests for help.
I call it "Nitroplanes' Squeaky Wheel Customer Service."
I started out all nice and polite, but 4 weeks later I was raging mad.
Once I got a little PO'd, NP really stepped it up and got my my parts...fast.

I agree tho...if you can buy an ARF, then buy a back-up Kit, then you won't have a useless "room ornament" for weeks while you wait for Nitroplanes.

Buying 2 Kits and your own electronics is probably the optimum approach, but as a relatively new RC hobbyist, I still prefer the factory motor and ESC -- at least until I become more familiarized with the inner workings of these planes.

I have a friend who buys Airfield planes from Nitroplanes. When they crash, he looks them over and if he determines he will need parts from NP?
He tosses the plane in the trash!
(He does strip-out the motor, ESC, rx and servos before it hits the can.)

I think you posted on another forum about Aleene's Tacky Glue. Well, I tried it and now I have all types of Aleene's in my shop. I have the quick dry, the quick grab, the regular and the clear-dry too. The stuff works GREAT on foam! Thanks!

BTW, I had to go to "Michael's Crafts" to get that glue. They're a chain store I guess. I was thrilled to see an entire aisle of hobby paints! Man, I bought about 18 different colors to keep on hand here. There's always one brand on sale, (today it was 2 for $1.00!!) so I never pay more than a dollar per color.
So thanks for getting me into Michael's as well. It's great to have paints to mix n' match when fixing up a crashed plane.

Guess I will start screaming!!! had like 17 good flights and few bad ones(dumb thumbs to blame) it has been a tuff plane and the parts I need, I can still fly without. thanks for the info

I rebuild/repair just about everything with CA to JB Weld(its heavy though), now where is your friends trashcan located at?
