Foam natch... Anybody got any ideas where this could be found??

I sent you a PM on the move to this section.
Can any of you WW I buffs help this gent out, and point him in the right direction to this plane?

I scratch built mine out of foam. Crashed it into a tree and there it stayed. Thinking about making another one.

Hi Degreen60
Your past built Bristol, was the fuse a solid block, or constructed similar to the Balsa USA one???
I have the plan, Balsa USA's, reduced to a 40" wingspan and have aquired a block of foam, large enough for the fuse and am in the process of cutting out the basic shape of the fuse now. Then, with patterns, I will sand it down to the shape of the actual one, and go from there.
It's the wing that I'm wondering about, is it solid foam also, or built up??
Thanks for the reply, hope we can carry on with this subject...

Chellie, boy did that video ever get me! While I don't plan on making mine that big, I well remember my Giant Scale days of the 80's, Bristol, Piet n Paul, 1/4 scale clipped wing Cub... Boy, many years ago....
But now, since I've passed 75, and am into mostly indoor electrics, I find that the Large stuff is too much to handle, so, build smaller ones, for plain enjoyment, indoor and out...
Thanks for the info you've sent, I'll certainly look into all of it...

I use an old GWS Cub wing and cut it to the outline of the M1. My next plane I will just cut the wing from flat foam and sand to airfoil shape. My fuselage is a paper airplane enlarged and glued on flat foam. Cut to shape and form into the fuselage. Cowl and spinner are just cut from a soda bottle.

Mornin DE
Well, first of all, what was the wingspan of your Bristol, and where did you find those "Paper" airplane markings to use on it???
It looks to me, as you used an old GWS Cub wing, that it's smaller than what I plan on building... Mine will be a 40" wingspan...
The block I am gonna use is now cut to 7" x 8" x 25" long with the side view template traced on it and the top view...
Seems to me your Bristol was a small one...
Let me know please..
Art.

And, to you Hank... Thanks for the info, actually the one I want to copy is the red one from Australia... My recollection on seeing pictures of this one, back in the 80's, had a different engine in it... Still can't find these pics.....
The Aeroworks one is still too small, but Peter Rakes one sounds like the size I want, but again, being cheap, I don't want to put the bucks out.... No, will work away on my foamie one.... A 40" is more to my liking....
Looks like I have to get a sheet of 1 1/2" blue foam for the wing and hot wire it...
Again, thanks for the info guys, n gal....

The GWS wing made an 18inch pannel for each side. I attached the wing pannels to the outside of the fuselage. That made a wing span of 39 inches which is close to the size you are making. I found the paper M1 on the net, do not remember where. If you would like the file I can email it to you. For WWI wings I use 1/4 inch pink foam sanded to airfoil. Pink foam is stiff. The tail fins are made from foam take out boxes and meat trays. Upper struts for brace wires are bamboo skewers. Landing gear is made from popcycle sticks.

Now for my last stunt, a forward flip on landing.

I wish he would. It has been in the tree for a year now. Wind did finally turn the plane over. I think the wing brace thread has wrapped aroung a limb. I am hoping the weather will cause the thread to rot and break soon. I think the reason I lost the plane was the motor. It seem to cut in and out but I still had lots of control just could not climb out of the trees.

I have a cousin that was a ranger. He shot the limbs off some trees to get club members planes back. I can not see to shoot that good and he lives too far away to shoot it down for me. LOL

Now for my last stunt, a forward flip on landing.

Tie a heavy fishing line to a arrow, leave the line in the fishing pole, with the reel open, and shoot at the plane with the bow & arrow, or get close to it, so you can pull on the line and shake the plane out you just have to get close to it I bet you can even make a nice bow and arrow Take care, Chellie

Hummmmm, any Apache's around
Darn good thing it's made out of foam, at least it will still be in one piece....
Why these trees always reach out for Bristol's is beyond me....
Tha't were my Balsa USA one sat for a week, till one of our members brought his Cherry picker out.... But, being balsa, it was a mess and ended up in the garbage...
Back to cuttin foam....

Tried this, limbs are too thick to shoot an arrow through to the plane. Last time I lost a plane to a tree in this woods I could not see the plane only hear it and finally saw some leaves move when I moved the transmitter sticks. Waited 3 months for winds to bring that plane down. It is back flying now.

Now for my last stunt, a forward flip on landing.
