Talking Broke my first skid

I'm guessing it's the first of MANY right? Still, it's annoying especially since I was at the hobby store looking at them when I picked up the 120 SR thinking "I don't need those, I'm not going to be one of those people who break their skids." So now here I sit, looking at my new shiny FP heli and can't fly it. Our nearest hobby shop is 40 minutes away and my weekend is scheduled out so I probably won't be able to go buy new skids till Wednesday at the earliest

I was outside practicing my hovering with the heli and its a very calm day outside today, just the slightest breeze and it got a little to close to the iron fence in the backyard and I panic'd, cut the throttle and she fell about a foot to the ground. That was enough to snap one of the support arms on the skid.

I know I shouldn't mod it out with aluminum because of weight but what do you all think of the CNC carbon fiber mods out there for this heli, for example the stuff here: http://www.cuskerrc.com/apps/webstor...ategory/535084

For now I'm going to buy several stock landing gear sets from the hobby shop but I was considering adding in that cnc landing gear from the link above, what do you all think?

depending on where it broke you might be able to repair it, at least temporarily with some string and CA. wrap it up in the string then coat the string in CA and it should be very strong.

Hey, thanks for the tip. I am still pretty new to this hobby and was unaware you could do that. I'll pick some up at the hobby shop when I head out there and try giving the skids a fix. It think mine snapped in a point where I could do what you suggested.

Hi
Yes indeed i used fine silk wrapped around the break and coated with epoxy to repair skids on my Proto CX
Its an extremely strong repair
Take care

These are as close to unbreakable as you can get.
I have used the same set for 5 years

Helicopters don't really fly.......
They're just so ugly, that the earth repels them.

Jim, that link you provided is for a CX. Is that skid compatible with my 120SR? I looked at boomtown and didn't see an ultraflex skid like the one you showed me for the 120 SR unless I missed it.

Hi
The 120 SR is relatively new so theres no aftermarket or upgrade parts for them as of yet to my knowledge
Give it some time though and im sure there will be many different choices to pick from
Take care

I would rather break the skid than fit unbreakable version and transmit that shock and damage to more expensive serious parts ... I have metal skid frames ready for my 450 ... but they stay in the wrapper till I'm confident that I can land / fly without breaking the plastic ones I have ! (Which have been repaired a couple of times ....)

The CA and re-inforcement repair is fair game and worth perfecting.

If a stay or fitting is round - it's possible to slide a CF tube over with epoxy bonding it to the area ..

Usually weight of repair is not an issue when done carefully ... but on small indoor helis - can make a difference to directional tendency ... so care with that additional weight.

Yea I agree... Until you are done crashing, your heli should stay stock.... The plastic is a lot more resilient than metal anyway... it was just a fluke that yours broke, I have come down from a lot higher than that without a problem....
