I started with plans from a Extra 300LX 35%. Traced out the profile of the fuse, wings, planform. Scaled it down so that the wing span will be 40" picture of what I traced. |

The plane this is based on is the one in my avatar.
This is the 35% scale Hurley Extra 300LX. It will be a profile fuse with full foam wings and coroplast tail and stab. Parts so far. 3- servos 9.99 each $29.97 1- motor 2409-12T from Heads up. bought a long time ago. $11.95 1- battery 3S 1800mah 30c $22.95 APC 8-4E Prop $2.37 Prop Adapter $2.50 a sheet of coroplast 24"x36" $4.80 So far $74.54 dont know if I will make the $100 mark. picture is of the layout on the 24"x36" coroplast sheet. the fuse sides are obvious. the 4 sided shape with the "X" on it will be the LE of the horizontal stab. after you fold it in half. the other pieces that look like a shirt will be the rudder and elevators after you fold them in half. this will make sense when I actuall cut them out. |

Here is a 3D view.
some details that I will point out. first- you can see the main wing is transparent and you can see 2 carbon fibre-.25" rods going through the wing. from tip to tip. I will cut out the 2 holes in the wings. I will also cut the 2 holes through the fuse. I will glue the rods into the wings and the roots of the wings to the sides of the fuse. 2nd- since the fuse is a thick foam profile with coroplast sides, I will cut out the tail section out of the fuse then I will slide the tail assembly into the cutouts. Again this will make sense when the construction starts. |

If you are in the Mpls, MN area.
you can maiden it for sure. In fact, if there is anyone in the area that would like to fly it, let me know. But, I have to finish it first. I am trying to make it as simple as possible so that I will finish it. I am going to try and cut out the coroplast tomorrow night, or at least get the layout on the board. |

Great minds think alike.
My plan was to sandwich an .8" thick foam between the coroplast sides. the servos and the battery are .8" thick. I will cut them out of the foam and hide them with the coro sides. details to come |

Welcome to the fun!! What a cool design as well. Coroplast is the plastic stuff that looks like corrugated cardboard, right? This will be interesting.

tonights progress
Pretty simple stuff, but I will tell all the details. If you look at my post #2, you will see the piece that I cut out tonight. this is the main part of the horizontal stab. the elevators will attach to this stab. And the verticle tail will slide into the slot. the process... I draw it up in a CAD program, print it out. tape it to the coroplast, cut it out of the coroplast. pic #1 the piece cut out. pic #2 this is the cut out piece folded in half( look at post #3, you will see this piece,( front of horz stab)) pic#3 on the coroplast pieces, some of the pieces will have a rounded leading edge, the pieces that are not rounded, I will use packing tape to make a leading edge. pic #4 This is how I made the LE, I cut out the corogation on the coroplast, then folded it over on itself. (see pic #3) As always, things will make sense when more is done. |

I forgot to say, when the coroplast pieces get folded in half
and glued, I will sandwich some hinges in between the coroplast sheets. Therefore the hinges will be centered on the wing. details will show up in later posts |

I cut out one side of the elevator.
using the same technique of cutting out the piece and folding it in half. the left side is a piece of paper and the right side is the coroplast folded in half, along with the main part of the horizontal stab. So this is what the horizontal stab and elevator looks like when assembled. The vertical fin will have a slot in it and it will slide into this slot on the horizontal stab. second picture is of hinge located inbetween the folded halves of the coroplast. |

Cut out all the pieces, folded them in half and taped them with scotch tape. (temporary) Pic #1 both pieces taped together Pic #2 Tail section assembled. As you can see, slide the 2 pieces together at the slots, this creates your tail section. This assembly will slide into the slots that will be created at the tail end of the profile fuse. If you look at my Post #3, the 3D picture, You can see how this assembly slides into the slots created on the fuse. All the rough edges will be cleaned up and wrapped with colored packing tape. |

Cut out one side of the coroplast fuse sides.
I left my paper template on the fuse side, so later I can punch the 2 holes for 2 CF tubes, for wing mounting. pic #1 the fuse side cut out with paper template still on pic#2 close up of paper template and holes to be punched later pic#3 shows how the tail section slides into slot at rear of plane I will cut one more fuse side exactly the same, then I will use my cnc foam cutter to cut out the .8" foam core and sandwich the foam core with the two coroplast sides. Notice the product placement, I expect a call from them for my multi-million dollar endorsment contract. |

I wrapped the tail sections with some color.
Not super happy with the looks, but is fuctional. I wrapped all the exposed edges of the coroplast. I also put hinges on the V tail. just glue the hinges in between the coroplast halves after folding, this centers hinges automatically. pic #1 this is how I wrapped the LE . I cut the coroplast at an angle on each mating edge to form a "V". laid a plastic straw ( thank you McDonalds.) and wrapped it with colored packing tape. creates a nice LE on the coroplast wings. pic #2 pics of the tail sections, V tail has hinges, you can also see the LE wrapped thats it for now. |

and I am also doing a 24 foot airfoil for a gentleman out in Oregon. Its for his land yacht.I bought a set of landing gear for about $5.00 a my LHS. I think it was made for a cub. I will make it work when I get time. I will glue some hard points in the foam. |
