Thank you for contacting my office to express your support Senate Amendment 86, which was passed by unanimous consent and was included in the final Senate version of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization bill. I appreciate your taking the time to write to me about this issue. Model aviation is a hobby that has not only provided enjoyment to Americans for decades but is also be an important educational tool to motivate young people to become involved in aviation related fields and research. S. Amdt. 86 specifies that FAA regulations do not apply to model airplane activity and would allow such activity to take place in accordance with community-based safety guidelines. While the FAA reauthorization legislation that has been proposed in the House does not contain this measure, you can be sure that I will keep your views in mind as the Senate and House work together to reconcile their respective bills.
