Default Balancing a Flyzone J3 Cub

I prepared a Flyzone J3 Cub for flight assuming the winds will go away for a few days. The plane came from Tower Hobbies scratch and dent outlet and someone must have returned it after an unhappy flight. Damage was very minor and easily repaired. With the price less than ½ of regular retail I think I got a good deal.

When I went to balance it, I was surprised at how badly out of balance it was. The manual said it should be balanced right out of the box. But they did suggest checking it out. I ended up using 1 ¼ ounces of weight. Since the specifications say it is a 19 -21 oz. plane, I thought about 5% of the total weight for balancing was quite a bit.

Has anyone here had similar experience with the Flyzone J3 or similar sized planes?

You can see a couple of the lead weights sitting on the nose on the final balance – there are 3 weights glued inside the cowl.

I am anxious to get it in the air stepping up from my HZ Champ. I am hoping it fares better than my SkyFlymax.

Roger
