Build Review Its On, Start Building, 100 Mph Under $100.00 Foamie Contest

We Are Starting Early, Its On Start Building, you have 90 Days to complete your Build, or a little more if needed So, get off your Buns and Start Building start your own build thread, 100 mph for $100.00 Build Thread, Take Care and Have Fun and Be Safe, Chellie

Hi Everyone I was Just wondering if anyone would be interested in another Contest, A Foam Scratch Build Aircraft, 100 MPH Under $100.00 the Aircraft is to be made of Foam, but the Control Surfaces can and should be made of Balsa or Plywood to take the stress of 100 + Mph Flight, StevePhoon made mention of a contest where the Guys from Flite Test did a similar contest, it wont be easy, so I figure 90 days to build and test fly the aircraft should be enough time for a builder to test different power systems to get 100 MPH from their aircraft, Any Takers
THE TRANSMITTER AND RECEIVER ARE NOT PART OF THE BUILD EXPENCE, BECAUSE 2.4 RECEIVERS ARE EXPENSIVE...

Here are the Rules

1. Plane is to be made of Foam, Foam is to consist of 75% or more of the Planes build.
2. Wood/Balsa and CF to be used to make the plane strong and safe.
3. The price of the wood and CF is not part of the build expence for safety reasons.
4. The contest will end Sept 1, 2011
5. Start a build thread with 100 MPH for $100.00 in its title
6. proof of speed will be needed such as Doppler, Radar Gun, on Board electronics that show the speed
7. Going 100 mph or more will get you into the 100 MPH club and a icon award on your Showcase
8. Plane can be e power or wind power, no Fuel
9. list parts and prices paid for build items in your 1st post on your build thread.
10. Be safe and have fun.

100 MPH for $100.00 Builders So Far

Octavius WOW got a Foamy plane to Do 109 MPH for under $100.00

LOL, I wish there is a lot of Talant Here and Everyone Wins, with a 100 MPH Plane there will be no Voting Proof of Going 100 MPH from Doppler or Radar gun screen shot or Onboard speed Measuring Electronics will be needed for Proof. there can be more than one winner Who ever goes 100 MPH or more WINS and ALL the Winners will be added to the 100 MPH Club.

Is this limited to powered planes Chellie?

I can get over a 100 dynamic soaring my Fish, and it cost a lot less than a C-note

(don't panic - I don't land the planes)

Ok, so we can use balsa or plywood... but don't have to right?

I mean, if i built something like the Multiplex Funjet from foam and from scratch, got it to do 100+ mph and it doesn't shatter into 100 pieces in mid-air, that qualifies as a win right?

If so, count me in... !!!

(P.S. I assume EDF is allowed?)

as long as the plane is scratch built from Foam and it does 100 MPH with or with out a motor is Fine and even more of a Challange wood and cf can and should be used for bracing the foam, and used for control surfaces, Take care and have fun, Chellie

Sure EDF is ok, the wood will be used for the control surfaces and any Structral Bracing that is needed to make the Foam Plane Safe at High Speeds, CF can be used too for Structrul Support/ Bracing, but the plane has to be made mostly of foam

Right as long as the Plane is made mostly from foam, the wood can and should be used for the control surfaces and wing bracing so the plane does not shatter apart at 100 MPH, for an Example lets say the plane should be About 75% Foam and the rest Wood or CF to make it Strong and Safe to use at High Speeds you can use a prop/edf or wind power, it does not matter, as long as your not tying a brick on the plane and tossing it off a cliff, and getting a radar speed on a falling brick tied to a plane, it counts, it has to be flying and under control

What I plan to do is to make a Delta out of 9mm Depron, the wing will be sanded to a airfoif or i might use a hot wire to make a airfoil on the foam, the motor will be a 2836-2350kv motor, and a 60 AMP esc and a 4 cell lipo of about 1800 Mah lipo and a 5.5x4.5 APC prop, it will be a tractor with the motor in the front to prevent a prop bite

16.32 motor 2836-2350kv turnigy
34.58 esc 60 amp turnigy plush
19.99 4 cell lipo 1800 mah 40C turnigy
-------
70.89 for the power system so far

$10.00 in foam
$6.00 for 2 HXT 9 Gram servos
$2.00 in epoxy
$2.00 in packing tape
$1.00 for control linkages
$2.50 APC prop 5.5x4.4 Heads up Rc
$2.95 prop adapter 4mm HURC
---------------------------------
$26.45 hardware

$70.89 Power system

----------------------
$ 97.34 Approx so far, Gee, I hope I have enough leeway to paint it

This is just an Example of a delta that should be able to do 100 mph, here is a example of what it will kind of look like.

Thumbs up Inexpensive Power Systems that will Do 100 MPH in the Right Plane

(1) HXT 2845-2700KV 60 amp esc, 2250 mah 4 cell lipo 25C, APC 5x5 prop, went 103 MPH in My Funjet
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=5222

(2) turnigy 2836-2350KV, info below from HK. $17.57
Here is the setup to get you to 110mph in a Funjet. 2836 2350, APC 5.5x4.5, 60A SS, At least a 2650mAh 4S 20C Turnigy (need to sustain 60A). I used a Wattsup meter to read 58A at 14.7V for 875W. Doppler at 110mph consistently and use WOT for 30-60 sec at a time.
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=7993

Just some Power System Examples for a 100 MPH Run in the Right Plane

I have put off repairing parts on my motorcycle and thos honey do,s around the house to get this plane done . So even tho it sounds like alot of fun and i would love to build one ,you could not count on me to finish it. I know it sounds crazy, but I’m going out to the field to fly this Saturday and i'm actually hoping i get to crash at least 1 of my 7 planes (preferably the Funjet) so I’ll have the parts to build my 100mph Foamie, lol

On the contrair... I always tell myself that I know I'm gonna crash a plane... that way I'm not over concerned about crashing... it helps me focus on flying and gives me the confidence ... yeah... I know I'm weird, but it works for me almost all the time.

Love it! Do we have a deadline, or is it an open ended challenge?

Hi Tyler It has not started yet, and if and when it does, a person will have 90 days to complete the Mission/Contest and if most people are haveing a problem trying to complete the mission/contest, we will extend it another 30 days No Problem see I am easy but dont let word get out about that LOL, Take care, Chellie
