"One man's trash is another man's treasure" Now I need help for 100 mph foamy build

As most of you might know, Chellie is launching the 100 mph foamy contest. I currently have a 10 month old boy, a 20 week preggers wife, and have to finish the basement before we are blessed with our little girl in October. Therefore, I am not making this a build for the contest, but am more interesting in doing my first scratch build.

Here is the story... my father-in-law calls me because there are cases of foam in the dumpster at his work. He thinks it would be good insulation between the foundation and drywall in the basement I am finishing. I think, "FREE FOAM!". He is able to load two of these cases in the truck and deliver them to my home. Each case has 80 of these 2'x2' pieces that are 1" thick. This is strong foam.

So I need help with a design and instructions on how to make this foam into a plane that will fly 100 mph. All advise is welcomed!

Thats Easy Tyler, just get yourself a Hot Wire Bow, and cut away all the foam that does not look like a Plane I am Bad

make a plane to look something like this, make it a front motor plane to get away from prop bites, use elevons, the rudder does not have to work, look at the 100 MPH club on page 1 for motor, prop, esc and lipo suggestions

Chellie, do you think this is a better design then a flying wing. Similar to the Ritewings. Also, what do you think are the pros and cons with front motor mounts versus rear motor mounts?

Hi Tyler IMHO I think this design will have less drag than a flying wing, Remember the SR-71 is a delta I think with a 28" W/S it will be a great performer, also IMHO i dont think there is any difference in thrust if a motor is in the front or rear of a plane, also the having the motor in the front, there is less chance of getting bit with the prop during launching, Hope that helps, Chellie

30 min epoxy in very thin coat, but its hard to cut.

(2) hot wire cutter, Xacto knife, fine saw blade, band saw with a fine blade, any thin saw with very fine teeth.

(3) carbon fiber tube 6mm or CF square tube, wood Dowles, balsa aileron stock to helps to make the wing stronger and wont flex like a foam aileron will.

This is way too cool and overwhelming. I noticed that you used a train transformer for your wire cutter last year. Do you recommend that for an easy set-up or something more home made?

the toy transformer worked out great you can get them for about $ 8.00 to $15.00 on e bay, you can also get the wire on ebay too. its a very easy set up, even a cave man can do it I sure like to tease you and give you a bad time in a nice way Tyler, see how i am I am Bad You got to have Fun. try both the .014 and the .020 wire and see which one works the best for you, hope that helps, Chellie
