Default Digital Trims and ESC/Throttle Control

Hello all,

I just recently brought my E-Flite Apprentice out to demo to some friends and family. I went about as I always do. I turned on my TX and then plugged in my battery. Much to my dismay, the ESC didn't arm. The plane hasn't crashed and all the connections were solid. I searched around and found that sometimes the TX and RX must be farther than ~5ft away during the arming process. I got the ESC to arm, but I was also playing with the throttle trim. So, I'm not sure what fixed it. The throttle trim or being farther away. Now, my real question is do the trims reset since they are digital? The TX is a DX5e, so it's not computer. I was wondering if I have my trims all messed up now and possibly could be flying with less than full power. Should I re-bind to make sure?

Thanks!

Hey zman

Same thing happened to me a few times, 90% of the time it would arm. What I found out later is it most likely(not always) your ar500. Lots of ar500 rx's have been sold. Some people say they love em, no problems at all, but I and several others don't like them much anymore. Just more cheap chinese rx's, you know how it goes. Just like you said keep your tx away from the plane 5ft or so and dont point it directly at the plane. I think it is called the "cone of silence"

I know this is for a dx7, but you get the jest.

As far as your esc, make sure its not getting hot.
I never had a problem with the trims resetting, once it was trimmed it was good.
Also rebinding can't hurt. Just my own little process, if I haven't flown in a while, I rebind. Most likely not needed. I just like to make double sure everything is communicating correctly.

have a good one

Dx5 is not multichannel but IS a computerized TX and trims are stored digitally when unit is powered off. ESC will not arm if throttle trim is not at zero. (safety precaution)

You can prove the trims are working correctly by listening to the pitch of the trim after you poWer the unit up.

So, the throttle trim needs to be all the way down?

I can't tell, the throttle trim has many more beeps than the others haha. I got it to arm again this morning without re-binding, so I guess that means the trim is back to normal?

All the way down or nearly so at least in my experience with DX5 and AR500.

Heck I flew my Radian for a year with AR500 and can't say enough good about the receiver. Not a millisecond of trouble and its range was WAY beyond question. I highly recommend the AR500.

Yeah it did have great range, over 4000ft.
Like I said 90% of the time, it was perfect. Just three times, lost signal with the ar500. But I do have to say, that I did crash the ar500 several times over a 3 month period, bubble wrap and velcro saved it from any physical damage, maybe the electronics inside gave up the ghosts due to crash trauma!!
Can't say enough good things about the dx5e, it is what it is.
I guess I cant blame the ar500, but I wasn't crashing bad until after the 2 or 3 times that I lost signal.

Just depends who you talk to.

have a good one
