Cool REPAIRS!!! - Tips for Beginners

Hi -

Beginners tend to crash!! Some info about repairs would be very useful (I've posted some very basic questions elsewhere). I know from exploring elsewhere that there can be lengthy debates even about best glues. I've got a Parkzone U/M Cub J-3 and must say I'm finding re-connecting linkages to servos/control surfaces very fiddly/difficult - perhaps I'm going about it the wrong way?? - certainly an extra pair of hands would be useful!

Regards.

I moved your post from its original location. It was out of place in that thread, but it is a great topic so I did not want it to be lost.

Let me help get it going! Regardless of what your plane is made of, when you are making repairs here are some tips.

* After a hard landing - Check everything.

* It is likely something moved, broke lose or shifted which will change the balance of the plane. This will change how the plane flies which could lead to another crash if not found.

* If you find one thing wrong, assume there are others and keep looking

* Make sure your repairs are straight. For every minute you spend fixing, spend 5 making sure everything is straight

* Too much glue does not make a joint stronger it just makes the plane heavier

* If you reinforce a location, expect the next break to be somewhere else. If you crash, something has to give. Sometimes reinforcement can make the breakage worse.

* If you are prone to crashing, choose a plane for its ease of repair rather than its cool appearance. Save that one for when you stop crashing.
