Hello folks,
I was just curiouse of something. I have been using an old Craftsman Tool Bag as my "Field Box" since I started out in April no one gave me the idea I just kinda figured I got tired of going back to the house for minor repairs and figured out it was pretty much standard for every RCer to have one or maybe just common sense one of the two. Any how My bag is getting kinda full and I was looking into something like Tackle Box of sorts when my wife said what are you going to put in it my reply was I dunna know so brings me tomy question what do you carry in your field box. Sure we all kn ow tape screwdrivers maybe some spare parts or batteries but is there something in your field box that you would recommend someone have with them at all times that say maybe no one ever told you to bring? Again just curiuse thing.

I know in my bag are lipos ,tape and screwdrivers but if I were to claim soomething I would highly recomn would be Exacto knives kit. You would not be surprised howoften I have pulled it out for some reason or other

A bind plug, for when you forget that to do a range check on a SPectrum, you pull and hold the trainer switch after you turn on the radio...

As far as "electric" tools and support (the box also has support gear for gas, nitro and sailplanes), I have

Small "multi" screwdriver
needle nose pliers
regular pliers
blenderm tape
5 minute epoxy (dixie cups, coffee stir sticks)
CA (thin and medium)
t pins
rubber bands
e-props
prop adaptors
allen wrenches (metric/us)
Locktite
bind plug (plus more in the TX case)
IR thermometer
velcro (both sides)

Dedicated bins for any hardware that comes on/off a model when it's assembled
Some spare hardware for the above

I also carry one of the little battery check voltmeters as well as voltmeter that will put a load on the battery for a couple of my bigger planes that have separate receiver batteries

I agree that is a great list.
In fact there are a few items in that list I shall add.
I also carry fishing line. So I can attach my minicam in case of big crash and it falls off its velcro. Also I have a magnetic tray for screws after being removed

Good thread. Since I do most of my flying out of my backyard, I haven't had to come up with a field box. But tomorrow we leave for 10 days at the beach. I've packed up my Super Cub and a bunch of my go to tools and accessories. I had to sort through all the stuff I've accumulated in the last few months. I really should come up with something more formal. This thread will help me a lot!

And don't forget the rubber bands. I put em on every battery that comes out of a plane so I don't accidentally put a spent battery back in. Nothing like putting what you think is a fresh battery in your plane only to hit lvc one minute in to the flight.

That is a great idea I inf act left once thinking I had top off my batteries and really had not. Big crash. I corrected the matter but rubber bands would be a smart way not to confuse them by mistake. I need to add that.

Also this may sound corney but a checklist I found was important so I would not forget to check something before and after flying

I used to use tape to hold the leads to the battery but after a while you end up getting sticky batteries. I switched to rubber bands cause its cleaner.
A check list sound like a good idea. Haven't forgotten anything yet but I'm not getting younger. My check list at the moment consists of; plane, batteries, tool box, transmitter.
I also keep a dx5e in the car at all times just in case I do forget to bring my regular transmitter. That way I can still bind to the dx5e without having to drive all the way home. Just planning ahead. Lol.

All of my lipos are in a briefcase - empty compartment for the "used and abused" ones.

I also carry a battery tester/load meter. Not for electrics though, none of my e-planes have a dedicated RX battery

Great thread, like the rubber band idea. It was a day late for me though. I took a spent battery out with me today. Glad my foamie glinds well!

As silly as it sounds I bring a First Aide Kit. For me it has been a life savor. no pun intended, As often as I have had to go tromping through the fields to recover my plane and I think I have found every hole in Wyoming, you would think I got my butt whooped a couple of times.

I got my plastic fishing boxes at Wal Mart. Very cheap and many sizes. I keep all my battery chargers (Hyperion/Hobbico DC) and cables and connectors in a separate box and all my other parts and tools,tape,glue,velcro etc in another. You can get tiny boxes for blades and screws and keep them in a bigger box.
I spend 6 months in a 5th wheel and only have so much room for "MY" hobby so the boxes work well. Stackable and easy to switch to the truck to take with me. I also have a small carry on duffle bag and you can easily put all the tackle boxes in it and just carry one small lightweight bag. Lipos carried separately.

I picked up a Stanley Tool Box on sale $9.99 at WalMart. So far it works good has compartments on top for Lipos and small things and a nice little tray for other items. I think I need to add CA glue to my list because toay I was asked 3 times for it and they did nt want Gorilla.

Here is what I use, an aluminum case from Harbor Freight.

It's got room for screwdrivers, wrenches, pliars, you name it. Plus space for spare props behind the top lid. And, the main compartments can be partitioned for your transmitter, and various other items.

The pull out boxes make great battery holders. You can adjust the sizes of the compartments, making the containers very versatile. A flying friend showed me how he flips the batteries upside down when they've been used.

Why so much ? The boxes also provide dedicated storage in my model den for spares ... tools ... etc.
They are divided up into various size compartments. I cut out odd dividing walls to allow main rotors to fit etc.

I have all at hand whether at field or in model den.

It's amazing what I get asked for when out there ........ I usually have it ... so not only do I stay flying - but also other guys who know I have gear.

I have thought about changing to a fishing tackle box ... but then I lose the segregated boxes per model type.

A few more ideas for extended sessions:
-Rags, paper towels, or napkins.
-baby wipes (soapy cloth for models or hands)
-Mini zipties
- 1/2 to 3" wide clear tape (temporary damage repair)
-Butane-style soldering gun
-electrical tape or silicon caulk (insulate soldered joint)
-RPM meter
-sliding square
-magnetic prop balancer (disassembles into its own case)
-3' keychain measuring tape (sold at Walmarts automotive desk)
-Automotive or kitchen-size fire extinguisher
-Clothespins for repair "clamps"
