Red face Dynam C47 is there any hope?

Hello,
I have always wanted to get into RC plane, so a few days ago I took the plunge. I searched and searched and ordered the Dynam C47. I wanted a stable large scale plane..... I thought it was a good idea! I have had time on Sims and flown a friends plane before but wanted to make sure I got some good advice before I take it for a flight. Now this might not be the ideal platform to learn on, but if it was all you had? How would you help set yourself up for success?

Thanks in advance. ~C

Have your friend trim it out for you. Also please consider a EPP trainer to get the hang of flying some more and save that C-47 as a number two...

Take care and thanks for posting at WattFlyer!!

Practice, practice, practice, practice on a simulator. Especially practice doing touch-and-go's.

Then get a good pilot friend to fly with you on a buddy box for a while.

Cool plane. Would be a shame to destroy it so quickly due to a little impatience.

Sadly you have a very POOR plane for a trainer. You will need help to be successful with this plane. I agree with Don - save it for the future!

The Champ is a much better choice to start. (Others as well).

Terrible choice for a trainer. I consider myself a decent flyer, and when I flew a buddy's C47 it fell out of the sky on me and crashed. It does NOT warn you AT ALL when you are close to stall speed. It just suddenly rolls over and drops like a rock.

Get yourself a good trainer plane and put the C47 on the wall until you can fly all day and not crash.

I wanna be a pirate. Arrrrr

Well that's all I needed to hear. I'll keep her grounded for a bit till I feel a bit more confident. So what now? I had a 3ch plane a few years back and was bored after a few weeks. If this planes not a good fit, what 4th plane should I be looking into.

And not to boast too much, but I'm good at he flight sim....

I'm a big fan of the Sky Surfer from Banana Hobby (same plane from Hobby King is called the Bixler) as a first plane. It is a 4 channel airplane. With the optional brushless motor, it is fast enough to keep you from getting bored quickly It will do loops with ease, rolls are not snappy due to long wings but doable and inverted flight is easy. It can also fly at very low speeds.

All of my landings are three point landings if you count the spinner, too

IMHO;
If you want something that will prepare you for the C47 then I'd go for a four channel (i.e. aileron equiped) trainer, and something reasonably large, say 50" span or larger. Not only will such a model better prepare you for the C47 but you should be able to use your C47 batteries to fly it.

A three channel micro might be a safe low cost introduction to the hobby but you would then need something to bridge the gap between such a model and the C47, so it ends up costing more and taking longer.

Also get an experienced flyer to help you

Sounds like Steve has tagged the eFlite Apprentice. You can learn to fly that alone, but an experienced person on a buddy box would make it a piece of cake! And this is a plane that will remain fun after it has taught you to fly. It may look pricey, and it is a bit, but when you get it you'll realize it's called VALUE. Well worth a look.
