Hello everyone, I found this forum and read a lot of interesting facts and tips on building and re-building RC aircraft. I have been into Helicopters for several years, and recently bought a Super Cub which, as a first plane, I think is fantastic. My first flight was ROG and landing from a grassy field, no problems. Second flight was ROG from a small one laned asphalt road, slight breeze, no problems bringing it on the glide path around a corner and safely on the runway. I guess learning on a helicopter made the reverse sticks a breeze when watching the plane in the air. I do have a question; I was planning on purchasing an E-Flight Apprentice plane, is there still a problem with the motor being bad as I read in the past, or should I simply order a new motor with the plane?

Thanks in advance,
Joe

Welcome to WF, Bo90. I got an Apprentice I think about 3 years ago as my 1st plane. I've had no problems with the motor. It's even taken a crash straight in on the nose, and the motor mount broke. I initially replaced the motor & ESC (with a power15, not stock one) just for my peace of mind, but wound up putting it back when the new ESC for the new motor crapped out. It's flown many flights since then and no problems whatsoever. I've got a warbird and EDF now, but still enjoy flying the Apprentice now and then, and doing some touch and go's to brush up on my basics.

I think it's a good plane. Good luck!

Thanks John, (would have asked for the grid coordinates, but don't have the correct map) looks like a lot of room, great for my Cub.

Hey Bo, I had an apprentice and it was a good plane. It flew very nice and the trike landing gear made for really nice landings. I crashed the plane though; I lost signal and it nosed straight in and literally exploded into pieces. I have owned quite a few planes both foam and balsa. Something on the line of a apprentice that I own now is a Multiplex FunCub. It is a very well built plan really nice quality and you can land and take off just about anyplace. It flies really nice and is about the same size if not bigger than an apprentice. I have a 5 channel setup because I have flaps which really makes it float. Its has a tail wheel but I have never had it nose over even on tall grass. Check it out. It is also made of EPO foam which has a fairly nice finish compared to the foam of the apprentice. If you have your own TX already you can buy it as a kit it takes about 3 to 5 hours to build.

Several scratch built foamies, Maxi Swift, Swift II, FunCub, 3DHS AJ Slick 43", Great Planes SeaWind, and Mud Duck Cricket. I have also owned a 2 HZ Super Cubs, Eflite PulseXT 25e, and an Eflite Apprentice.

Thanks everybody, I hope to be a regular here, since I found a forum where X-military hangs out.

cyclingsarge, do you have a link to the Multiplex Funcub? I checked Horizonhobby and didn't find it, I like to stick with HH because their shipping to APO addresses are great. I have a couple DX6i's, great little transmitter.

I took out my SC this Sunday, the weather was perfect for flying, sunshine and not a cloud in the sky. That is until I turned my transmitter on, then the wind picked up, and it wouldn't stay with simply coming out of the East. No.., it changed from East to South to West..., but for the second flight ever with my SC I did pretty good, of course I nosed over trying to land on a one-laned asphalt road. I made a video but it ain't too clear, when the SC is in the distance you can't see it. I'll cut the video up and post the ROGs and landings. Wind, minus ailerons is not too cool. I think becasue the Super Cub is such a nice trainer plane, I won't upgrade it. I have a few helicopters with brushed motors, they work great with a little TLC, and, if you break them in properly they will run for a long time.

Nice talking with ya'll, see you again

Okay, I loaded the battery on my camera, attached it to my SC, found an area big enough to do a ROG, dirt road with a lot of potholes and stones, as usual, when I turned on my DX6i the wind started. That didn't stop me! Everything is stock on my SC except for the 2 1/2 inch lite wheels. One thing I forgot.., after mounting my camera, I forgot to adjust the COG, therefore and thusly I after take off I had to quickly adjust some elevator to straighten it out. Didn't do too bad, my son was ther to get some still photos, brought it in without a problem, enjoy the rear view.

Nice video! Some of those plowed fields look like the would eat up a SC! But then again, SC's land where they want to land!
