Default UMX Beast battery (EFLB1802S20): how to charge?

The battery for a UMX Beast is an e-flite EFLB1802S20. I broke their top-secret part numbering code to interpret that part number as a 180 mAh, 2-cell, 20C discharge rate LiPo.

Here's where I get confused. I've always known multiple-cell LiPo packs to have a balance lead and a discharge lead. This pack only has a single lead with red, white and black wires. It LOOKS like a balance lead to me!

I really want to avoid buying yet another charger designed to suck another $20-$40 out of my wallet and only charge one specific battery for one specific airplane.

Can anyone identify the connector and possibly a manufacturer part number for a charging adapter? I need to get from the banana-jack outputs on my Triton 2eq charger to this little battery with its single unusual lead.

Thanks in advance!

Your battery has a 3 wire lead, that indeed is all that is necessary to hook it to a balancing charger, IF that same charger is capable of charging through the balance leads.

Your battery has only the one lead, because the load that will be put on it is less than 3 amps, which is what most companies agree the balance leads can handle, either charging or draining.

But I am sorry I can't identify the connector, or tell you what adapter you need.

Can't help you with a connector either but your charger better be able to charge through the balance connector or you will run into some trouble.
Not all chargers do.
I know my iCharger will not work.

That's a stock balance connector, probably jst-xh. You need a charger that works ONLY through the balance tap. Some of the cheap ($5-10) low rate chargers will do this or a Cellpro 4S.
Don't think your Triton will as it appears to charge through the main leads and balances though the balance tap.

You don't have the stock charger?

Look at the new UMX Beast 3D at Horizon... they've pulled the battery and charger that usually come with the UMX planes from the box - I presume to keep the price down. With the gyro/stabilizer thingy (AS3X) there's a LOT going on in this little plane! All that comes in the box is the plane, manual and a spare prop.

What about something like this?:

It says it will.

If you have 2 batteries may as well get the double one. Isn't it fun how industry is constantly able to come up with non-standard BS devices to make our lives complicated?

I know, right? After I got over the shock of an ultra-micro that didn't come with a battery or charger, I couldn't figure out who to blame for ruining my early x-mas... Horizon/e-flite for putting out a battery with only a balance lead? Electrifly/GreatPlanes for putting out a charger that won't charge via the balance tap? LHS for not pointing all of this out and not having any idea about a charge adapter?

Oh well, at least the SlowStick is flying again and I've got lots of colored Sharpie markers to make the plain white DW 40" Juka not so plain white while I'm waiting to fly the Beast!

Okay. I'm terribly confused now. My Beast is in her box, too. But I have the old Beast 2S charger with non-standard 2S connector hook-up so should be okay (It won't fit other 2S chargers, I tried two and backed off fast).
Regardless, I put in a request to HH for a "universal charging system" that would include all the necessary hookups and leads and whatnot for PZ, Eflite and HobbyZone birds from 1S to 3S (why not 4S, too). I hope they make it. It will look like an artificial heart or something but this flyer would buy it and put it on the fireplace mantel.

Wow... I didn't know WattFlyer allowed spam!

That does raise the question, however... what's everyone's favorite source for a 240 mAh 2S LiPo with that standard (but not JST-XH) balance tap connector pre-wired? I know Hyperion cells are the choice, but all I can find from them is a kit to wire up your own packs for the Beast... I'd much rather have a drop-in pre-made pack...

Hyperion now has LiPolys with the UMX compatible connector as stock.

FYI The HK nano tech 2S 25C 180 mAh LiPoly with an everyday price of $5 are indeed very good ones.

I'd say you have no choice. Either get one of those cheap RC chargers or the connector CanCanCase mentioned.
CellPRO is probably the only node charger only that can handle your pack the way it is.

Hi all, I bought this battery hoping to use it for my micro RC car and saw your posts after I realized it had 3 wires.

May I ask if its possible to convert this battery (soldering the correct wires/connectors, etc) so that it only uses a positive and negative lead and a seperate balance lead?

Does it even need a balance lead? (the stock lipo for my RC car doesn't have a balance lead)

Thanks

Dre, balance leads are included normally anytime there is more than 1 cell.

However, if you find the first, and last tabs in the pack, you will have your pos and neg for total pack voltage. Those are the red (pos) and black (neg) leads. Use those directly for full pack voltage.

It is possible to solder onto those leads, but personally, I have never been successful in doing so.
