Joe,
Try a HET 6904 and a 2W-20 motor. It pushed my Phase 3 Squall to 115. It's heavier than the F-16, so you could probably get at least 125 with that setup and the 4S 3300. PS - I lived in Naples from 99-03. Miss it. |

thanks for the reply Crxmanpat. I was looking at the Fanjetusa site, and saw that the 1W-30 motors spin up to 65000 on 100 amps... would that be a better choice?

How are these guys able to push the Foamy Phase 3 F-16 to speeds in the 175 to 200 mph range?

just my opinion, but if your looking to go 175, maybe the phase 3 f-16 isn't the best airframe to get there with.flying that fast with just tailerons is gonna put a lot of stress on the rear of the airframe, possibly tearing it off in flight when subjected to high g turns that are inevitable when scooting around at that speed.....the phase 3 f-16 is a great jet at 80 to 90 mph, but 175??? yikes!

Try the rcgroups forum as this model has been discussed at length.
As for 200mph, it might be a stretch! My stock F16 does 75 and for its size gets small fast enough. Cheers |

Casey,
have you ever heard the expression "putting a $50 saddle on a $5 horse"?? that's exactly what a 200 mph phase 3 f-16 is. if that airframe can take 5 flights without destroying itself at that speed, i would be surprised. it can and has been done, but if your looking for a fast bird that's gonna be around for more than a few flights, then a $65 foam airframe ain't the way to go. just I.M.H.O. this is my Phase 3 F-16..... at 90 m.p.h. she's rockin' |

These are just thoughts and not actual ... (based on my hotting up my various EDF's)
a) Remove the taileron function and replace with aileron and elevator split .. to reduce load on those elevators. b) Look at as high a C rated pack as you can ... the motor needs to 'breathe' .... c) Look at a higher KV motor with same fan or a lesser KV motor with greater blade fan / more pitch d) Clean up ducting and reduce to the recc'd size exhaust .. e) Clean up and remove all appendages on exterior of airframe and certainly NO WHEELS or legs ! Let her rip and see what you get now ... What you have to appreciate is that at about 130kph ... you hit a wall with most EDF's that is then very hard to break ... and each step up from that is harder and harder with greater amount of energy / effort neded per kph as it gets higher. It's not linear or easy. It really gets hard. My pusher jet does over 220kph .. but it needs 3x the power than when it did 170kph .... at 170kph it needed 2x the power of the 130kph ... The other factor is run-time will drastically fall as you go higher .. Get my point ? ![]() Nigel |

Several of my club members have put speed indicators on their foamie jets, one hit 97 MPH, the other hit 107 MPH. Believe me, a small size foamie jet pulling some 65 amps out of the 3S battery gets very small very fast. |

But once sorted and up in the speed ... the buzz you get from flying is IMHO really worth it. Nigel |
