I am having so much fun with this little beast - it is simply amazing. It goes out EVERY outing no matter the conditions. LOL!

A keeper for sure...

Same here. The fun part is when everyone at the field starts packing up because the wind is too strong or gusty, out comes this little micro-plane to rule the skies. (Despite the ribbing earlier about 'if you add water it'll grow to it's full size' and such) Someone on another forum suggested I erect a Mig Alley sign when I do that!

One thing I discovered is that the ailerons are touchy. I set my dual rates at 50 percent and that seems to be much better although I flip to 100% to do snap rolls. Once you fly one of these you will really like it.

The TRUTH is not always what it seems.

Not very but they are so light that they have a hard time doing too much damage. The nose is especially prone to bending....

How's this for you ?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RIuYCeOdNo

and this :

That's me standing next to a Mig at Cirava Airfield ... a front-line ex Soviet Fighter base ... The Mig was one of the planes left when the Soviet Empire broke up and they moved out .. the plane becoming a Show piece at entrance to the airfield. There's a grave and marker next to it that I tried to find out more - but not much said.

I tried to buy the plane to have it moved to my house grounds where I wanted to at least tidy up the exterior and put up on posts .. but the airfield wouldn't sell. Unfortunately it is deteriorating as you can see in the photo ...

It was a rare 2 seater ... and the first thing that hits you is how small and chubby ii is ... but that hides a potent machine of it's day.

As I was told by ex Soviet Airforce guys I know - there was a lot of British techno used in development of Russian Jet fighters in the early years - WW2 on ... and the 15 / 17 owes a fair amount to that.
The other story and I believe it to be correct is that Pilots were warned not to use the Fuel Boost pump to gain extra performance ... I'm told they had a switch in the cockpit .. if used - they had examples of the plane bursting into flames !

Sorry if I veered of the model side !! but thought some would like to see a real one ... I have other photos as well if anyone wants them ...

That coupon doesn't seem to work, but the plane's listed as $99 anyways.

My goodness at that price hard to turn down. My LHS does match price at times so I will bring the webpage in and if they have it available and are willing to match the price I just might pick this up. I have never flown a mini and when I started this thread I mistook it for a larger plane. I had not figured out the UMX stood for Ultra-mini duh Fish. Anyway will see what happen LHS does not open until 11 and have a few errands to run in the mean time.

Happy flying may your crashes be limited and if they are not limited let them be cool.

Yep, from the site.

99.99
Price slashed from $149.99 on July 1, 2013. Quantities may be limited. (Note that a Coupon Code is no longer needed to get this price.)

You know what that means......

DISCONTINUED!!!!

I'm either going to get good at flying em, or get good at fixin em!

I figure it has about $140 in electronics and batteries in it, even if I crash it and can't repair it. I can use the electronics in a Guillows or Dumas model. ( I have a Stevens AeroModel LNB-4 with crashed UM T-28 guts in it.)
Win-Win

RCers I trust your opinion
I have never flown mini before but have good experience with EDF. I am debating if it is too small making it too quick. If that makes any sense

I hear that Im also eager for the LHS to open. I may be working myself up for disappointment but may just order it anyway this afternoon in case the LHS does not have one in stock and or wont meet the price.

Can be a good thing but for me can be a bad thing that I cant help but worry. I love flying so much that I hate to imagine what damage I can do to this thing if I underestimate it.

Anybody who thinks they'll be tough on their MiG may want to consider this nose protector from Parkflyer Plastics.

I also keep a can of Deoxit (Picked up at Radio Shack) to clean my aileron servos now and then. When i fly from dirt especially, they can get some crud in them and jam intermittently. Maybe some other electronics cleaner could work as well. This stuff was pretty pricey.

Well pulled the trigger on this one. My LHS, Hobbytown USA, did not have any in. However, it turned out that HTUSA in Colorado did and an employee at my LHS happens to live in that town in Colorado, Cheyenne is close to the border of Colorado, and he was willing to pick it up and deliver it to the store for me to pick up. Pretty cool I think. On top of that I have 2 coupons on for 25 dollars off and one for 5 dollars off and they will take both. Bonus!! so I'm purchasing this plane for about 70 dollars plus tax. Cant complain.

Happy flying may your crashes be limited and if they are not limited let them be cool.
