Another bump for the XPS radio. I have used an XPS module in my Futaba 9C since the day they came out. Never a problem. I just sold my 9C as soon as I saw that XPS go their FCC certification for the new radio, eager to buy one as soon as they hit the virtual store.

Let me start by saying I'm a bit biased.. I sell FrSky.
I've been flying the FrSky telemetry system on my Futaba 9C supers for a while and I love them. Never a glitch, but I did get a signal warning on landing while visiting a new site. After landing I talked to a friend and I told him about the warning, and he told me they have a "spot" there that kills Spektrums on a regular basis. Some sort of noise sitting there. The FrSky just beeped a couple of times to let me know the receiver was getting a weak signal, but that was it. Landing was smooth as butter. My next radio will be the new FrSky X12D transmitter. 1, Number of channels: 12ch + 6ch (3+3 extensible) 2, ARM M4 core processor (512K FLASH, 128K RAM) 3, 212*64 LED back-light LCD 4, Audio earphone output 5, 32 native memories + SD card (data logger + extended memories) 6, Free RTOS operation system/Fr GUI self-developed by FrSky Any third-party development is welcome, and FrSky are willing to provide necessary hardware and software supports. Protocol and diagram will be open to all, while source code will be open to qualified developers. FrSky telemetry module with new PXX protocol 1, Three modes selectable: V8 (non-telemetry 8ch), D8 (telemetry 8ch), D16 (telemetry 16ch) D16 mode: PXX only; support both Tx→Rx and Rx→Tx transparent telemetry transmission; support radio-side options for bind, range check, normal working, failsafe and model match 2, PXX/PPM auto detect All of these features plus a very active open source community. Yeah, I think this radio will be very impressive. It should be available in a number of months. With that said, there are a lot of interesting radios currently under development (XPS, Jetti, JR, Futaba). I'd suggest you take a look and study the facts before you buy. I think you will find the right radio for your needs. -Wayne Aloft Hobbies |

Pat,
The XPS sounds like a winner ! So does the Frysky. I'd say the majority of our club members are Spektrum and JR. I'm one of the few Futaba guys(6EX). Sometimes at the field, it's like a Frenchman talking to a Chinese guy where neither speak any English. Looking to upgrade later this year and have been leaning towards staying with Futaba and the 8GL. The main reason is that I already have a drawer full of Futaba and Futaba knock-off rx's. Plus, I could then use the 6EX as a " Buddy Box" slave. I don't fly anything overly complex and really, the 6EX is fine except for it's limited model memory. It's too bad that Futaba is so bloody expensive ! |

Hi all, I've been using Frsky now for over 6 months. I have a converted DX7 (diy module) that I have not had a single problem with and works smooth. Also converted a Flash 5 with no problem. For me the JR radios seem to be the best for converting, my latest is a JR 9303 (was 72mh) I have flown gas , glow and electric with out a glitch. Receivers are under $20 for a 8 channel and the diy module is under $20
