Everyone is out of stock or I am directed to Hong Kong ... Is there a substitute of better quality that doesn't cost an arm & a wing? (I'm shopping for my hubbie)Thanks for any suggestions you might have. |

You can buy them directly from Horizon Hobby and you'll be assured they are genuine.
The various compatibles from China are inexpensive and they do work. OrangeRX from Hobbyking are $6 and I've had good luck with them. When I get new ones, I test fly them in a "disposable" plane to make sure they are OK. I've yet to get a bad one. It depends on what you are flying. The inexpensive receivers (Spektrum and compatibles) are fine for park flyers. For something large, complex, requires very long range, or just very expensive, better to stick with the full range Spektrum products. |

"What plane is it going in?" Would be a good question. Like pmullen, I have 3 or 4 of the OrangeRX's, but only use them in stuff that's staying close, or easy to live without (my blucor 3d plane is a prime example). Higher grade planes (like the one in my avatar) get CF friendly 9ch RX's with remotes

Thank you for your responses. Now, I'm going to figure out how to "thank" the responders on wattflyer... |

That pretty much rules out those "orange" receivers for the Kilowatt size models, and the $$$$ top of the line Spektrum receivers for the models running perhaps less than 200 watts or so. As for me, I'm using the Spektrum DX7 transmitters and the AR7000 receivers, plus a new AR7010 picked up a month ago. All have been flawless over the past five years of flying with them.
