Depends. There's "traditional" combat, where you try to cut the opposing planes streamers with your prop. Goes back to the control line days.
I fly two types of combat, both with EPP flying wings. One is unpowered (slope soaring off a cliff). We'll get half a dozen of us in a furball - typically when you get hit it's a hike down the hill to recover your plane. Also fly the same concept with powered wings. Fly until the battery runs dry, land, pop in a fresh LiPo and back at it. It's a lot harder to hit each other intentionally than you'd think...... |

When Old Fart says, (It's a lot harder to hit each other intentionally than you'd think......) he isn"t kidding. It is hard to do, but fun.

Just something that is maneuverable, and will take a beating. It's not a beginner facet of the hobby

That plane fits neither your combat requirement, or the "first aircraft" from your other thread.

There's 5-6 of us that fly scratchbuilt foamie F-22's on Sunday afternoons trying to knock each other out of the sky. It's a gas and does make you a better pilot. Not recommended for the early beginner. These foamies are very maneuaverable with high alpha. We have another group that flies the traditional Combat with streamers.
One would think the odds would be pretty good with 6 planes in tight proximity that someone would get hit. But, like others have mentioned, it's more the exception than the rule. A fun thing to do after progressing up the line. |

Yep. I had a guy flying FPV with a carbon fiber "warmliner" a few years back when I had my foam GWS Tiger Moth 400 in the air. System was telling him his airspeed, ati temperature, altitude, heading, what he had for lunch - but neglected to mention to him that he'd neatly sliced my upper wing off with his flying Ginzu knife
![]() One of our hard and fast rules for slope combat is "like aircraft". Although the Zagi's and Ridgerunners do like to pick on my 8 oz Ferocious Fish. But they generally can't catch me

Glo combat was all about cutting streamers with your prop ( great fun too), and the "plug and play" stuff is electronic no damage imitation combat, ( good for fragile stuff like pz planes). To me, real combat is ramming your opponent, or pulling out of a dive while who ever is chasing you goes in
. Either way, the last plane down wins. Epp and packing tape, pusher props and tailless designs are the best suited to the real thing....just be prepared for the consequences

I like the thought of attaching lasers to the gun ports of RC planes and trying to hit a sensor or something on your opponent's plane. then if you hit the sensor, a tone beeps from the opponent's transmitter, and he's dead. maybe I'll do that someday.

but I'm thinking maybe when I learn to fly
and maybe those missile launching helis too, they look fun, but I bet the range is CRAP so maybe a tougher spring? but then the airhogs servo wouldn't be able to release the projectile, plus, if you're moving at 400 scale MPH then I bet the missile would just shoot for 2 feet infront of it and then get caught in the propeller, so right after it fires you have to break off. it would be better for a ground attack role like aggainst plastic army guys. I was thinking of making a war film with R/C planes.
