Default Mountain Models SwitchBack- What mods have you made?

I thought I had only built nine SwitchBacks but in looking through pictures I've built 10! 12 if you count the SwitchBack Senior and my scratch built 75% mini SB. What the heck, why not build another?

I usually scratch build wings using the V-1 plans as it's so easy to replicate that version. I add my battery tray and hatch mount to every build. I've added retracts, both Wattage brand and the ones Mountain Models use to sell way back when Doug still owned the company. I've built a twin. I've used the Dandy "glider" wing. I've.......... Well I've done everything but make any real mods to the fuselage. This next build needs to be something different. I plan to scratch build the fuse so I can make changes but don't want to stray too far from the basic design of what is arguably the best balsa parkflyer available. Just want to maybe add a little pizazz to the exterior lines of the fuse.

Post up what you've done to your SwitchBack. The wilder the better. try to give a brief overview of what you did and how you did it. The more pictures the better. I need to blatantly copy someones hard work.

Just a very few mods I haven't done yet but considered:

Bolt on wing (can't believe I haven't done this yet!)
Rounding the turtle deck area.
Trike gear.
Canard!

Boy, does the Switchback bring back memories!

Had to comment as the Switchback 3D was my acrobatic trainer way back when on NiMh batteries and brushed geared motors!!! How times have changed. I just might have to dig my o' Switchback back out now and see what it would take to get it back in the air.

BTW, my Flashback V2 is still flying. Was just out with it yesterday morning in fact....

I'll have to watch this thread....

Here's a cut and paste of a post I made on RC Groups. Can anyone help?

Here's a crazy request. I'm looking for a .pdf or .doc file for the original Version 1 SwitchBack Sport manual. I have a V-1 kit that I bought here on RCG about 6 years ago just to hang on to and most likely never build. I just looked through it and it has the newer version 2 manual. I want the V-1 manual for the sake of originality. It'll come in handy if I ever (which I doubt) decide to sell the kit. I e-mailed Brian to see if he still has the file. Because it's the weekend I'm sure he's out having fun so I don't expect to hear back until Monday or so. I'm scared he or maybe even Doug purged that file a long time ago. After all it IS 11 years old.

Of the 10+ SwitchBacks I've built at least 3 of them were V-1 but I'll be hanged if I can find the manuals! Plenty of V-2 manuals laying around though.

If you don't have the file but have a V-1 manual in decent shape that your willing to sell shoot me a P.M.

Forgot to update here but many thanks to Brian from Mountain Models and Jim Taylor on RCG I got copies of much needed manuals. My V-1 SwitchBack is now packed safely away. Unlike my cherished NIB MM Urban Flyer this is one nostalgia MM kit that I'll never sell. I'm thinking about hermetically sealing my prototype MM FireStorm as well.....

I recently got a bug up my butt to do something/anything new with the SB. Over the years I've scratch built several SB wings using the V-1 plans because they're so easy to replicate. I started a new wing build the other day not knowing for sure where it would lead. I'm trying to come up with a bolt on setup that will allow me to easily retrofit this particular wing to all of my SB's. I want to make it so all I have to add to any existing fuse is a rear cross brace for the wing bolt. I'm in no hurry at all to finish but if I come up with something I'm happy with I'll post up pictures of what I did.

If I had a pair of smaller motors I'd seriously think about doing another twin but at a much lighter weight than the first one I did. Can't spend the money though.

I knew I should have copied the plans before I sold the kit!
