Default Resident Hawk

We have a hawk who seems to have taken up at least part-time residency at our local flying field. A few of us try to fly at least several times a week and almost without fail this fella is there keeping watch over "his" field. For the most part he ignores us and oft times will sit on this post not 40' away from our benches while we are tinkering with our planes. He'll fly off and pounce on his lunch and then eventually he'll return.

He's a very welcome sight.

I've had them attack my planes a few times. They can do a number on a glider when they want too.

Take care and thanks for posting at WattFlyer!!

We have hawks, herons, wild turkeys and deer populating our field.

We have a fair number of buzzards in our field and pretty much this is the only hawk. I've been seeing "him" (could be a "her" I reckon) most of the spring and summer.

But he spends a fair amount of time sitting on the same post which is very close to us. I guess he's realized we're no threat to him.

Don--Maybe I asked you already....Your bike in your avatar--is that a Gold Wing or a BMW K1200 LT? Looks like a Wing but can't tell for sure.

Cool! We see hawks regularly at our field. Don't know if they are the same ones or such. They all look the same to me!

Anyways, one day I happened to notice 2 of them flying a bit low over our parking lot, and at one point they flew towards each other then both turned up at the same time, at which point one 'threw' something, I think a rat or small squirrel, at the other who caught it! I figured it was a date, and he was feeding his gal lunch?

That's exactly what he was doing. They were probably Red-tailed Hawks, although all the Raptors do that to "get-the-girl". At our field we have an Osprey that flies with the planes, as well as a couple Buzzards, a.k.a. "Ckickenhawk", and a Falcon! And of all the birds we see, the boldest one would have to be the little Hummingbird that constantly harasses the planes...one brave little bird!

R.C. Hobby is a hole into which one dumps money.

all good...,hawks are the coolest soaring birds over our field theres alway a few and some will fly thru the flight pattern. by all means possible, they have the right of way

narrow is the place to land...wide is the space to crash....choose the narrow way!

Default More pics of "our" Hawk.

These taken today. One of our members was flying his foam Eagle, when he landed the Hawk actually flew from one of his many perches around the field and landed a few feet from the RC bird to check it out. I couldn't get my camera out fast enough to get that pic!
