Default Futaba 6EX problem- No elevator response

I dropped my Futaba and jammed the right stick. No free movement.

Took it apart and thought it was an easy fix as the the axle had come dislodged. Moved it back in place, closed the cover and it moved around freely up /down left right. Thought I had adverted disaster.

Powered up a model to test . Thottle - check, ailerons- check Rudder-check Elevator- Nothing. Just to see if it was a servo, I tried it again on another plane. Same thing. No elevator response.

Looks like I'm out of Schlitz.

Took it apart again but really cannot find anything wrong on the mechanical side. Spring action is fine. Looked for loose wires - All looks good but I cannot seem to find the potentiometer or electrical connection to the joystick as to where the switch is made. Alierons work fine. Not sure where to look next.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Hawk

If I remember right there should be a small pot where the stick moves in the gimble. If it is loose you will get no response.

+1 you may have nicked the POT that is what sends the signal....

It should be right on the gimbal...

Thanks guys,

After taking it apart and putting it back together several times, I finally figured it out. The contact looks like a thin washer and it was not secure in the pot that snaps in place on the gimbal. Hope it holds but it seems touch and go.

Man, when you lose a TX, it's scary. Like losing your right arm.

Whew ! Was already looking at the classifieds and ebay. Saw a few for $50.00. Time is coming soon to upgrade to the 8FG Super

Back in business for now...

Thanks,

Hawk

Hawk I thought the 8J Futaba was sure a good value...

$280 before discounts with an extra RX. Pretty capable too it appears. With the discount codes from Tower you could be near $250. Not too shabby for a 8 ch TX and two receivers. And the receivers are FAR cheaper than the FASST protocol.

Thanks Mike,

I'm kind of locked-in on Fasst. Unfortunately, their FHSS is not compatible. I hopefully can hold off till Birthday / Christmas and pass along enough hints to wife for 8FG- LOL

Yea that was sure an interesting decision on the part of Futaba. I didn't really understand the switch with no path for upgrade or legacy systems support. Strange...

Too bad it is a really capable box for the price.

I just moved up to the 8J (coming from a 6 channel). It is a great transmitter. I held one at LHS before buying. It is a little smaller in size than the dx6i I had, but that is one of the things I liked. I wonder if Futaba will make the Fasst transmitters upgradeable in the future to run both protocols (like 18mz). For someone like me that have only been in hobby about 6 months and didn't have alot of planes to switch over the 8J is a great way to go, especially with the competitive receiver prices. Also love that their is only 2 antennae to locate for the receiver and no satellites. The receivers also seem well made in a hard plastic case, solid.
