Cool Multiplex Magister Re-Powered

Greetings from Chincoteague Island, Virginia. I have come here to this forum in hopes of finding someone who is willing to help me get started in flying RC. I bought my son a Multiplex Magister about 7 years ago trying to get him interested in something besides wine, women and song! We took it to our nearest club (about an hours drive) and had someone help with the first flight. He tried flying again and crashed, which bent the prop shaft on the gear box. It has been stored in our garage since then. I recently took it to a hobby shop and let a guy talk me into a new electric motor and ESC. Here is what I have so far:

Multiplex Magister

Wing span 64 inches

Fuselage length 46 inches

Weight 5 lbs (approx.)

Servos Multiplex Mini HD

RC Functions Aileron, elevator, rudder and motor

The transmitter is a Hitec Laser 4

The new motor I was sold is an E-flight Power 32 Brushless Outrunner. The ESC is an E-flight 60-Amp Pro Brushless ESC with Switch-Mode BEC and Advanced Programming. Programming the ESC is very confusing. My question is what type of battery should I get and what brand??? I did a little research on batteries and it seems LiPo is the way to go, but I am not sure given that I am a beginner and want to keep my expenses as minimal as possible. If there is anyone out there willing to help this rookie pilot it is surely appreciated!

Scott
