My reaction to the image of the plane:

Yuck!

My reaction to your chosen setup:

That will work fine, but the flight times will be short with that battery.

Even though I dont like the airplane, I can appreciate it as a 3D performer. I'd leave the wheel pants, and possibly even the wheels, off.

Electricity... It's not just for light bulbs anymore.

I have a HK 3D Yak-54 fiberglass fuse /balsa construction/covered in the box.
Might part with it as I have 2.

Can post more info if interested.

Hawk,
not to thread hijack, but what is the link to that plane, and PM me a deal shipped to San Diego.

I just put in my Cap Maniac, and need a real good replacement plane to bend the sticks with.

Nitro,

Here it is on HK's site. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...arehouse_.html

I haven't opened the box yet to confirm what is exactly there. I can check to see what it would cost to ship to San Diego and PM you. It's a big box.

Going ahead with the Groupe Tranchant Yak-54 build. Very similar in size and weight. Also has a Fibreglass fuse Another not so popular model. 4260/06 500KV EMP motor, 80 amp esc, 4 standard servos. The big dollar item will be the 5 or 6 S Lipo's I will need to get this big bird in the air. Yikes !

I've flown a friend's Tristania and although it's very flimsy (ie. thin epp foam), it flys very well, super floaty, and almost indestructable. He's banged his around constantly, and just picks it up and throws it in the air again. Is there better foamies, yes but for the price and with the motor included how could you go wrong. Enjoy!

Have you guys noticed how much shippping prices @ HK increased with less options ?

Thats crazy now its almost as expensive to buy a 3DHS SLICK.

Big mistake from HK, they'r going to see how planes demand will drop like they never expected.

The larger '40e' version looks ok, it has proper airfoil tail surfaces which is a good thing as the flat ones (like the 30e version) sometimes flutter and break on 3D models.

What the weight is like, if it's strong enough for hardcore 3D and if the landing gear is strong enough (weak landing gear mounting being a common problem on cheap ARF's) you would have to find out for yourself.
