This from their website:
Product Description Key Features
Needed To Complete - 4+ channel DSM2 or DSMX transmitter - 2S 7.4V 180mAh Li-Po battery - 2S Li-Po balancing charger I'm not familiar with the E-flite radio, it says DSM in the model # but I can only assume it will bind with the plane? I guess either is ok. My personal preference would be the DX5 but that's only because I own Spektrum. |

I think they both are DSM2. Anyway here is a closeup of the front of the E-Flite.

Somehow I would feel better with the Spektrum DX5e, but the higher levels of Spektrum TX's would give you more abilities to fly larger planes in the future.
I absolutely have to have a large model memory capacity as I have way too many planes. My 9303 has 24 planes in memory. You may not need that right now, but at think about it, if this is going to be one of your first TX's. |

The 'LP' part means [Low Power]. It'll work but is designated as a short range only TX.
The DX5e is a better unit. Having said that you are WAY WAY better passing on both and moving up to at LEAST a DX6i or better. Both of the ones you are looking at are essentially 'dead end' with no model memory and no programming capability. If you buy them you WILL buy up not very long in the future. |

If you're going to learn to fly them, you have to learn to fix them. |

I think the LP is for small helis. Probably good for micro planes but likely to be limited range.. Flydriverbis right. Get a computer radio.
How to select your first radio. http://www.Wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68741 |

I have always said to get as much radio as your money will allow.
If you have been in this hobby for any amount of time the likelihood of sticking with it is pretty high. Airplanes will come and go but a radio will be with you for years. A good quality radio is probably THE best investment you can make in this hobby. I agree with others to at least get a computer radio with multiple model memory. You may not need the extra channels right now but the features tha come along with them are well worth the extra expense. |
