I am brand new to helis searching for basic information for helis. I think we need a sticky thread called "Basic Setup for Heli Beginners" or at least something similar to "Radio setup for Helo Beginners" ![]() I spent some times looking around but I could not find one here! Thanks & regards, Nick |

I noticed Erwin (Youtube) did not mention the reverse of the channel 5 as the mSR manual required. Maybe that was something I supposed to know. That's why I need the basic! I appreciate your help! I first followed HorizonRC's instruction on binding and trimming the bird. After few packs, I bound the mSR to the DX6i using the heli mode and copied Erwin's setups. I don't know whether I got better, or the Erwin's setting was better, but I could keep the bird in the air for some times now
![]() One typical newbie thing was I kept trimming the Tx did not know that when the battery went low the bird would act differently. Now I know ![]() I put about ten packs on it tonight ![]() If you knew I could barely lift my Axe CP up few inches above the ground last year, you would know how great I feel now ![]() Thanks, Don! For stickying this thread ![]() Happy flying! |

Now I could say that both Erwin's and HorizonRC's settings worked fine. I currently use HorizonRc's settings.
Obviously the bird behaves differently at the beginning and at the end of a flight due to the decrease of the power. Some trimming would fix it. Adding some power made navigating easier

I have a MSR and a DX6i. It is the best to leave it on the plane setting because it is a fixed pitch heli. When you get into 3D you will then switch to the heli setting and start working in programming.
Your gear switch is the high/low setting. Toward you is high setting, away is low setting. |

Setting the mSR up as a heli in the Dx6i allows you to program throttle curves but if you're not worried about that feature then yes Acro mode is fine.

Dumb question from a fixed wing pilot considering heli. On my sim, what do I assign the actual control sticks too? I mean what does the left stick control (in each direction) and what does the right stick control?
