I have a 1/4 aeronca that was given to me about 12 years ago(just now getting around to building it). I have decided I want to go E-power but I am a bit confused on what to power it with. I'm looking at the following items but would like some advice before puling the plug on purchasing. Turnigy RotoMax 1.20 Brushless Outrunner Motor Turnigy dlux 120A HV Brushless Speed Controller (OPTO). Also need advice as what to what battery would be best suited for that application.(if this system is suitable for my needs). Any and all advice would be Greatly appreciated. Thanks Bugle'em. |

Hi, If your power system is in this ball park, you should be ok.
Here's Everything you'll need: Radio1 - SPM7800 DX7s 7 Ch w/ AR8000 NO SX's MD2 2 - HT0605 24" Aileron Extension w/Gold Pins 1 - Voltage Regulator with Failsafe Switch, 6V Motor/Prop 1 - PM532034 AXI Gold 5320/34 Outrunner Motor 1 - PE2012W 20x12 Thin Electric Prop Motor Controller 1 - ERCE085P eRC 85A Brushless Programmable Opto ESC 1 - ERCE02 eRC Electronic Programmer Battery 2 - VNR15019 5000mAh 4S 14.8v 25C LiPo 1 - WSD7002 Series Module w/Deans Ultra Connectors Charger 1 - SRC6200 B6 Ultimate 200W Balance Charger for 1-6 Lipo Cells Accessories Includes: Glue, Solder, Connectors, etc. additional info 1 of 1 people found this posting helpful Great looking and flying model. Power by a Rimfire 1.20 with 2 5000 mah lipos. Rimfire .60 would be better, as the 1.20 is too much motor for scale flying unless its on floats. But the finished airplane is beautiful and gets lots of positive comments. Very happy with it. The bottom hatch on the nose came off on landing; perhaps the holding spring needs to be beefed up somewhat. |

Contact Jeff at Heads up Rc, he can fit you with a perfect power system, heads up rc is used by a lot of people here, and Jeff has some of the greatest prices and service around
![]() http://www.headsuprc.com/servlet/StoreFront This would be my suggestion on a power system from heads up rc. as not to over power it. http://www.headsuprc.com/servlet/the...h-03%29/Detail ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Firepower 110 Sport (6354-03) Outrunner Brushless Motor SKU: H-140 Price: $69.95 This item is in stock Quantity: The Firepower 110 Sport (6354-270) is a 16.9 ounce, 270KV, 2100 watt outrunner brushless motor that is roughly equivalent in power to 1.10 two stroke glow engines. It works well with 6 to 10 cell Lipo batteries. |

109" wing shooting for under 20lbs for sure. Suggested motor size is 110-160 nitro I'm pretty sure it could clear a 22" prop.
Oops thought I was on dads SN since I'm on his computer lol anyway Bugle is my dad. |

OK, let's assume 20 pounds. So you want about a 2000 watt motor that will swing a 20 to 22" prop.
So let's see how your motor choice stacks up: Turnigy RotoMax 1.20 Spec. Battery: 8 Cell /29.6V RPM: 280kv Max current: 65A Watts: 1924w No load current: 29.6V/1.55A Internal resistance: 0.027 ohm Weight: 622g Diameter of shaft: 8mm Suggested ESC: 80A 8S Compatible Suggested Prop: 19x10" or 20x10" APC Lines up well with the target I suggested. Max current on this motor on 8 cell lipo pack is 65 amps You listed a 120 A ESC. Certainly that will work but it is a bit over kill. They recommend an 80 amp ESC so you can downsize a bit if you wish, but your choice will work. You should have plenty of room in that fuse, so I might suggest this 5000 mah pack. You could run them as a parallel pair to get longer flight times. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...Lipo_Pack.html I am VERY partial to Cell Pro chargers http://www.revolectrix.com/cat.chargers.htm |

We have a good charger already. And we were planning on running 2 4s 5000mah packs. so we can get more use out of the 4s battery's. We picked the 120a esc as the others didn't seem to support 8s.

Thanks for the reply s Chellie and Aeajr.
I'm use to tinkering with the nitro planes, so when I started reading up on the electrics it was kind of overwhelming trying to figure out all the numbers. Starting to get a grasp of it now ( I think ) LOL. Any how thanks again, now its time to order up some goodies. |

Look at Heads up Rc Motor pages, Jeff has a lot on info there, I learned a lot by looking at heads up RC motor pages and the info given with the different motor power systems and thrust Measurements, and by emailing Jeff, Take care and have fun, Chellie
