I am wanting to scale up Steve Bage's F105. The plans I have show a wing span of ten and a half inches. I would like to scale this model up to around thirty six inches in span and put a electric motor in the nose. "prop jet" Can anyone direct me to a thread that will help me calculate what motor and prop I would need for the wing area I am planning? I would also like to know why most prop jets are pushers and not tractor? My guess would be CG issues. Thanks in advance for your help. Steve |

this would be my Recommendation using a 6x5.5 APC prop
on 3 cells, later if you want to go Faster, use a 5x5 or 4.5 x 4.5 apc prop on 4 cells use a wattmeter to be on the safe side http://www.headsuprc.com/servlet/the...450-Jet/Detail |

How long has that been there? See all the cool stuff I missed...
looks like it's quote night! Han Solo: Luke? Luke's crazy! He can't even take care of himself, much less rescue anybody. [Chewie barks again] Han Solo: A Jedi Knight? Jeez, I'm out of it for a little while, everyone gets delusions of grandeur! ![]()

Thank you all for the help. FYI, not looking to break the sound barrier, I just want a cool sport plane. I like scratch building and I like oldtime methods. I also build rubber free flight using tissue and nitrate dope. This is the planned method on the F105.

Steve,
Great to see some interest in my old F105 plane (I'm Steve Bage) ![]() An scaled up EDF conversion has already been done and it flies fantastically. Here's the video:
The builder goes by the name Boogie over on RC groups. He did a build thread: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1314878 You could PM him for more info or I can put you in touch if you drop me a PM here. A prop rather than EDF would simplify the conversion though I think a pusher might be the way to go with the battery up front to achieve balance. I hope you do go ahead with the project, i'd love to see another thud take to the air. Steve |
