Default Need help building a Millenium Falcon

I was looking at getting one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/310282265612...84.m1423.l2649

But it is small, indoor only and IR controlled. So I am thinking of building a Foamie version from scratch. I have a heli to part out, but it is a single rotor. I am thinking a coaxial would be necessary. What do you think? Maybe I could mount the tail motor aft of the ship?

I have plenty of dollar tree foam and exacto blades. Would love to get some of your ideas as to how to make this thing.

Stick the tail rotor in between the thingamabobs out in front, and make that the front.

Intresting, I almost think a quad copter would work best, but since I don't even do helos, what do I know.
I would like to see the bottom of that thing. The motor drive assembly is hidden perfect in the photo. I hate that. Where is the batt and such. I would almost take a pic of the falcon and start from there. xmech2k's idea seems valid.

EDIT: Hmmm.... Seems to be a cheap coaxial wearing a hat.....

I'm either going to get good at flying em, or get good at fixin em!

Hilarious! The demo girl says it flies very well, in the video. What she should have said, is: "Manages to actually defeat gravity for a few seconds, before spinning wildly out of control."

This caught my attention as I've looked at the FW vtol project countless times as a potential rc model, and that cheap toy shows some of the problems. The concept is fairly similar. The spinning problem could be countered with gyro controlled props ran from small motors, similar to many heli tails. Controlling the individual counter-rotating lifting motor speeds may also work, but would likely require very precise rpm control. Still, it would simply turn on spot, and not "fly". Making a model that would actually fly more like an airplane in flight, such as wide banking turns, could prove to be much more difficult. Overall balance has to be close to the thrust center also, which is another obvious challenge in building a model. Someday, someone will build one of these as a flying model.
