New HobbyZone Firebird Stratos for ClearView, FMS and RC Desk Pilot

Hello sim flyers,

Just completed the sim models for the HZ Firebird Stratos for:

This is one awesome RTF airplane, it has terrific looks and comes
with some awesome technology for easing a newbie flyer into a
successful flying hobby. They call it Electronic Virtual
Instructor technology and experienced pilots can think of it
as a roll gyro with a mixing radio that makes it easier
to fly the model and keep it straight and level and well
behaved in the turns.

I bought mine at Hodges Hobby during SEFF 2012 right as it came
off the shipping truck.

Hi ggunner,
I was happy to get the HZ Firebird Stratos for Christmas. It is without a doubt the most fun I've had since I was a kid. I'm 44. So I got the clearview RC flight Sims program and I love it. I just got to fly my Stratos that you created in the Clearview Sims and the only thing that is different from the real plane is the way they turn. Let me explain, Naturally you would think that because the real plane doesn't have wing flaps and only a rudder to turn left and right, that it will turn and the wings stay level. This just isn't true. The real plane banks in all its turns and in the process of turning, the nose will have a tendency to drop so you also have to pull back on the stick (elevator) To keep the plane at the same altitude.It is a very smooth flyer and you have no problem turning the plane into a barrel roll or turning it on its side with the wings straight up and down as it is turning. And it can turn extremely quick. Hope this was helpful. I fly everyday so if you have any questions just ask. PS. This is my first plane ever and I love it. Whitty1340

Hello Whitty,

Yes, I have a Stratos too. However, when modeling the aircraft, I was torn between trying to simulate the easy flier on low rates versus the very capable flyer on high rates and max throws. I agree with you that the Stratos can do some amazing stuff when maxed out, but most folks starting with the model want it because of the Virtual Instructor self correcting capability.

So, if the CV model flys like the Stratos on low rates with the VI, then it is doing what it was designed to do. If you think it needs to fall out the sky more, I can fix that by reducing the wing span in the fmodel.ac.

I see your point and a good one at that. I'm the newbe on the block and had received the plane before the sims and was really impressed with the fact that I haven't destroyed the real one yet. Its cool to have my plane on the computer too. I've never flown anything before.
I hope I didn't sound as if I was downing your program? on the contrary, I am really enjoying the fly time when I want to fly and the weather is bad, I live on the water so weather is unpredictable, I can still fly the plane I own when the mood hits. Thanks GG

Hi GG, Just got the update and I don't know how you did it, but my sims Stratos now flys like the real think. Having a blast on the gloomy day. Thanks again....Happy Flying Whitty
