Best Glue?

I never have built a foamie. I bought a MS Composit Citabria http://www.commonsenserc.com/product...oducts_id=1592 What would be the best glue to build her with?

On EPP, regular old Medium CA and kicker will work just fine.

Ya regular CA but you should look at the online manual you have to use foam safe Ca in certain spots of this plane. The online Manual shows were to use each CA. Hate to see you melt the foam on a new plane.

A lot of guys in my club put those electric screamer jets together with epoxy. Then use epoxy to put them back together after a bad landing.

Epoxy can be heavy if you are not careful with the amount used for a glue joint though.

CA is Good, but its a tad Brittle
Epoxy is Great, but a tad heavy

Shoe Goo works Great too, but a tad heavy also, it takes 24 hrs to dry, but works great if your not in a rush This may be the best glue for all Foam Planes to make them super strong.

Sorry, this post seemed a bit blunt after I read it myself. I hereby apologize if I sound too 'loud'. I'm editing some words here to make it sound better.


EPP planes are created because of the resilient properties of the material that makes an airframe bouncable and not break up. The CA and epoxy adhesives are usually not recommended, unless specified by the kit manufacturer. CA and epoxies cures hard and will cause the joints to be stiff, brittle and not flexible. The joints will not be flexible enough to take punishments and will normally crack or shatter during impact. We do contact combats with our EPP slope gliders and at least this is what the kits' instruction manual recommends.

The best glue is those super strong contact cement like 'Shoe-glue', 'Shoe-Goo' or 'Zap-a-gap-a-goo'. You have to apply on both surfaces of the joints and let it dry for a few minutes before putting them together. Once done, the joints will be flexible and very strong.

The next glue you can use is Hot melt glue. Thin contact cements like UHU will work, but not as strong as Goop.

Just wondering, would that be the "High temperature" hot glue, or the low temperature hot glue?

Or does that standard high temp glue melt into the foam??

I normally use the low temp glue to be on the safe side, I use the Hot glue to hold in servos with on foam, works great and the servos can be cut out easy with a knife thats been heated up. hot glue is heavy, so i dont use a lot of it. wrapping the servo with masking tape helps to keep the servos clean when reusing the servo in another plane.

We used these devices at work before retiring. These things really work well.

They were hard to find, and were $$$$. Nice to see that Harbor Freight now has them for ten bucks.

I'm a huge fan of white Gorilla Glue. You just have to be careful in the amount you apply as it expands. A little bit goes a long way!

It is very strong, light, and excess can be easily be cut away or sanded. The drawback is that it takes more time to cure than CA and you have to hold the pieces together fairly tight so the glue does not cause them to separate as it expands. Plus, when you get it on your fingers, then hold your plane, the paint is likely pull of the plane and be stuck on you!

shoe goo works good on my eflite apprentice (epo foam?) but on the parkzone micro's like my corsair and t-28 it will just melt the foam.

i used shoe goo to hold the servo's in my apprentice and love it. if you need to remove the servo you can use an exacto knife to cut the glue. once the servo is out, just peel the glue off the servo case.

I have Shoe Goo here, use it on my RC Cars. I just ordered some Welders from Amazon. Though I had better get it while I can. I also have a low temp glue gun. I believe I'm set. Once again thanks!

I have recently come across "craftworkers silicone glue".It works fine on foam board or polystyrene,and even balsa.Doesn't take more than about 15 minutes to dry.And best of all,it sands easily.I found it in the craft section of a department store.
I can't really identify the type of glue,there is a very feint smell to it,but I can't tell what it is.
It's apparently made in China,but I wouldn't hold that against it.The packaging says""glues like hot glue".I don't know what type of hot glue they mean,but it's nothing like the stuff that comes in sticks.It's much better!

I love Beacons Foam Tac but have been having a hard time finding it here in DFW lately. My LHS, where I've bought it before looked at me the other day like I was from another planet when I asked them what happened to it. Been using 5 min epoxy and on somethings, Welders, which is very pliable. Use Gorilla occassionaly but don't like to foam-up. Hot glue is great for Dollar Tree foamie profiles.

glad to read this post. have always wonder if shoe goo works on planes. does it work on all foams? i use it alot on my HPI baja for body reinforcement. itll protect lexan from a 50 lb RC car. wanted to use it on my planes but scared too.

Totally agree! On EPP Welders or Goop (seems to be the same thing and is easier to find in the US) is the thing. I just finished a build and review of a little EPP bird (The TwistedHobbys Crack Yak. Shameless plug: http://www.3drcforums.com/content.ph...Mini-Crack-Yak) and I did everything except the pushrods with Goop. It has the huge advantage of having the same flexibility as the EPP. CA has a tendency to turn brittle and may crack when the EPP flexes.

I'd say toss the glue that comes with the kit. Kit glue is sometimes really poor quality and since a tube of glue is just a few bucks, there's no reason to take chances.

I build with gorrila glue using small amounts because of it foaming and i also use elemers rubber cement for folding wing flaps over for a real airfoil wing. I use epoxy on motor mounts and landing gear mounts for extra strength. I wont pay for foam safe CA or Foam tac because the cost is to much and i build alot. joe
