Default How bout some "BLING" instead of a bag

We've all been there. The walk of shame, carrying a bag to pick up what's left of our most recent violation of gravity.

I thought why not do something that would add a little fun to it.

And so I came up with the "BLING"

Yeah I fly, but I also have gotten into 1/6th scale tanks, big muthers.
Been rebuilding a slew of them for a client, and had a bunch of left over parts from the Hanger Queen parts donators he had, and didn't want.

Well a scratch build sorta. And not finished yet. This beast started life as a 1/9th scale Abrams tank. 4 feet of tank. Or better said parts left over from a bunch of rebuilds of them. Took the main tub and shortened it by a foot, and spliced it back together. Replaced the tank wheels with aircraft tires. Built a self adjusting idler system for the tracks. Tied the suspension to the tub with 3/16" steel brake lines, wheel collars, and couplers to strengthen it. Used the stock 600 class motors and gearboxes for power, running off of a 12 volt motorcycle battery. Sabertooth 12 r/c esc, and Spektrum receiver.

Then went stupid on it. Since I also fly r/c airplanes and doo doo happens, why not build a rescue vehicle for picking up the remains of the latest crash. Beats carrying it home in a bag.

Built the cab and bed out of a mix of aluminum, Plexiglass, and Lexan.
Added a bunch of LED lamps and strobes front and back.

Bed will dump, via a Hitec retract servo, and of course I bed lined the floor for durability.

Working winch system on the back for dragging debris to the bed, controlled by tx.

What else? Since it has exhaust stacks it's gotta have exhaust. So I built a proportional smoke system for it. Fan for the exhaust is driven by 5 volts at idle via a resistor so it just piddles out smoke, when moving the fan gets a full 12 volts to it from the esc and pours smoke out of the stacks.

I used the cab to hide most of the controls. Rear window is hinged and latches, inside I built a Plexiglass stand for the switches for main power, lamps, smoke, and strobes. Also inside is the fill hose for the smoke tank.

Still have a few things to do on it yet. Thinking of building a working plow for the front. Also have to add the aluminum grousers to the treads, don't look forward to drilling a couple hundred holes and then screwing them all on.

And lastly, why not some sounds. Found an old sound board in the junk drawer. Silly system, at idle you get a V8 rumble, but as soon as you throttle up it changes to a turbine spooling up into an ear splitting scream.

Why not turn loose your rescue vehicle after the crash, and have some fun cleaning up with "BLING", instead of walking out to the scene with your head hung low and carrying your Hefty bag.

No time for video yet, just got it this far late late last night.
Actually I guess around 2 o'clock this morning.

Thought of a crane, but then I'd not have the dump capability. I do have enough winch line to drag the carcass up onto the bed if need be.

Side use, use it to haul snacks and sodas back and forth. Just toss a cooler on the back.

When I die, I want to go like my Grandfather did, in his sleep...... Not screaming like the passengers in his plane.

Bags can be stored in the cab, and strapped to the bed when used.

I'm with you on the bling idea, but I'd rather not bring the trash bag back so I'm going with destroying a 100sq ft area with mortars and such to destroy the evidence of my dumb thumbs........just hope the army doesn't miss this baby thats sitting under a tarp at the field.also hope the club buds don't mind my using it so often.

what your making is very..very cool looking!!!! would love to see it in action without the need to retrieve a wreckage.

narrow is the place to land...wide is the space to crash....choose the narrow way!
