IIRC the 6505G is the standard Astro Cobalt 05G with the 2.38:1 gearbox. We used to use them on 6 or 7 cells (NiCd) at around 25-30A. Steve |

The Astro Cobalt 05 in it's time was a very powerful motor, well above the standard silver can 550 brushed motor.
It was available in a straight drive, side geared reduction, and planetary geared reduction. From what I could find out it was supposed to max out at about 235 watts. I had the 05 side geared motor in a Goldberg Electra. I believe I ran a 11/8 prop on 7 cells. With a normal nicad pack it climed out very well at about 45 degrees. With a Koyosho 7 cell matched low resistance racing battery pack, it went like a dang rocket, almost straight up. All I had was a servo operated switch, no speed control. It's a good motor, that has been passed up by new technology. Now a 250 watt motor weighs so much less, plus the same battery power weighs so little, and a speed control is 1/4 of what I had, that when I restored the Electra I took 12 oz out of it. |

I did really hop one up for 10 cells, putting a whole slew of aluminum radiator type fins on the motor shell to keep it from melting. In it's day, these motors were really expensive. And, they really went through the special expensive brushes. The last Geared 40 I had used a brass motor pinion, and an aluminum driven gear. Those things wore out in about 50 or 75 flights, even when I sealed them up in high speed grease.
But nowdays, even a cheap China motor and ESC would cost a fraction of these Cobalt geared motors, and would out perform them perhaps 4 to one. |

FWIW, when they say cells, in this case it means nicads or nmhd, not lipos.
