Cool Spektrum DX8 Gets Sailplane Programming

Spektrum DX8 Gets Sailplane Programming
Casual sailplane pilots often set up their aircraft using the acro/airplane tools in their radio. But "real" sailplane pilots want sailplane specific programming. The DX8 lacked this feature.

Spektrum announced a free SW upgrde for DX8 owners that adds sailplane programming.

SAILPLANE FUNCTIONS
  • 4 flight modes
  • 4 wing types: 1 Aileron, 2 Aileron, 2 Aileron + 1 Flap, 2 Aileron + 2 Flap
  • 3 tail types: Normal, V-Tail A, V-Tail B
  • Motor control assignment
  • Camber system
  • Camber presets
  • Flap-to-elevator curve mix
  • Aileron-to-flap mix
  • Aileron-to-rudder mix
  • Elevator-to-flap mix
  • 2 free programmable mixes
  • Independent aileron trim per flight mode

Yep, i installed it the day it came out. I cant really comment on how well it works for sailplanes because the only sailplanes I have aren't complex enough to need any of the features on offer. however what I can confirm is the new update doesn't have any adverse effect (that i've come across) in terms of normal Acro or Heli programming

Pardon the "dumb question" I ask because I dont have my DX8 yet, long story short. While reading the manuel you have provided. IS this programming and addition to the current DX8 software, in other words just an added option to choose? I guess I mean type of plane option heli, plane and or sailplane or does this make your DX8 committed solely to sailplanes.

I hope my question is made sense.
Thanks in advance

Happy flying may your crashes be limited and if they are not limited let them be cool.

Can somebody point me to the update please. I go to the Spektrum Community website, but don't see any software updates for my DX8.

This is an added aircraft type. You lose nothing. You only gain sailplane programming.

You have to create an account on the community web site then register your DX8. The software updates are specific to your Tx's serial number so can only be downloaded after you register your Tx.

If you click the 'my products' link then you should be taken to a list of all the products you have registered. Updates will be listed against each product.

works for me anyway....
