Default Ref; Blade CX2 Problem

I'm sure this has been various threads about this, but I'm not sure if any one has had the situation I have and what not, so here I go!

Last week I bought a CX2 with a spare battery and rotor blades, and whilst..more or less blade striking it a few times, it continued to function. Replaced blades, not really a big deal, I got a few extra for this reason. Today I tried it outside <people were less then happy with a barely controlled RC heli floating around the living room!>

Well outside, I got it in the air a few times and held it, and when bringing it to land, a dust of wind made it come down hard, and it cracked a landing gear. I've since ordered an indestructible one. Still no problems, I used a bit of electrical tape to just quickly patch the stock skid together. Decided to try it indoors again in another room. Took off fine, landed a few times <Though, not smoothly, I'm still learning, but it wasn't bouncing off the ground, it just made that skid need to be pushed back into spot>.

Third time I spool up the rotors, it just begins to spin around on the floor, zero lift, and I think it..sounds less powerful. So I held it in my hand and spinned it up and it feels like it wants to lift, but it just isn't. So I tried the test of 'full power to one engine' and the other. The top rotors seem to randomly decide to have enough power with one test, then not enough with another.

Keep in mind, I've never owned a RC, and I don't know a thing about them, and I think at this point, if some for some reason, a one week old CX2 can't be sent in for repairs, I'm calling it a 200 dollar paper weight and not pursuing the hobby further. I know I need to learn to repair these things, but the manual is very confusing, and the videos offered are rather of the 'Filmed thirty years ago in some one's local YMCA in ten minutes' style. The hovering guide was entirely worthless and I'm trying to just learn how to even do that for more then ten seconds at a time.

Does any one have any idea of what I should do? I'm not trying to sound whiny, but it's really frustrating when you get told the CX2 is supposed to be very 'newbie' friendly, and then you can't even make it take off, to be 3 feet above the ground, and bring it back down.

PS: I've tried trim, I've fiddled with all controller aspects and it makes no difference. It seems just plain broken.

Hi & welcome to WF. I'd like to help, but I have a few questions for clarity. Did your heli not work right from the beginning? Towards the end of your post you make it sound that way.

Anyways, as far as the indestructable skids, I'm not sure I would get those. Think about it. if you hit the ground so hard that something is going to snap, do you want it to be the cheap, easy to replace skids, or something like the heli's frame instead?

As far as the spinning and weak power, there are a couple of things to check. My first suspicion would be the battery. if you're really new to RC, maybe you're not familiar with lipo batteries. If you discharge them too low repeatedly, or even if you go way too low once, the battery will be ruined. It's a small price to pay for the amount of energy you can store in these small sized batteries. So the moment you notice your CX2 is losing power, land it immediately and remove the battery.

Another problem could be something like hair or other debris caught in one of the rotor shafts and simply causing it to bind. Also, since you hit hard once from what you said, check closely that nothing else is cracked or bent somewhere in the frame, expecially around where the motors and gears are. Use a flashlight if necessary to get a really good look.

I'm curious, how did you do the 'full power to one engine' test? In case you don't know, if the CX2 ever crashes or in any other way has the rotors blocked from spinning, get off the throttle ASAP, the ESC's can burn out really fast, then you'd have to replace the 3-in-1 (Or is it a 4-in-1?) unit.

I'm suprised you flew that outside. Must have been zero wind because when I'd try with mine it's just gone with the wind! I got a CX2 years ago and it was fun when I could fly it in a warehouse, not so in the living room... Now they have the MCX2, a much more indoor friendly machine.

I've never done over a 4 minute flight, and I have two battery packs. <I would hope two brand new packs didn't both start going bad.>

By the full power to one engine, I mean with the control stick that gives power to the motors to lift it off, I pushed it all the way to the right, and to the left, the one to make the nose turn. Not really sure what you call it for helis.

As for it working, as I've never done RC before, to my knowledge if it could lift off, and change directions, that was fully functional, but now it doesn't lift off the ground, and I know thats most definitely a sign of failure on my part, or a motor..or any number of problems I read about.

Hi Helis are nice to have and fly, But you need to get real good at Fixing them figure on fixing and balancing a heli 80% of the time and Flying it 20% of the time starting out I am Not kidding, if your going to stay in this RC hobby, become a Real good Heli Mechanic and have a Big Pocket book, because Helis are a Money Pit I have had 5 Helis, I still have 2 of them Hope you get you Heli Fixed, Take care and have fun, Chellie

The control you refer to, left/right on the left stick, is the yaw control. Rudder on airplanes. Sounds like you're keeping flight times to a safe level. I would even check that all the connectors are secure.

I had that problem before and believe it or not ONE of the tiny scews for one motor was gone- gears would not mesh enough to HOLD contact when power was applied.
Everything seemed fine UNTILL lift was needed, no unusual noise or anything
and luckily no gear damage.
I know it seems strange thought I'd throw it out there. Similarly ithappened just after a
"hard" landing. Also rotors seemed fine at idle
