Default Wing Walker ....

OK ... how many have wanted to do a Wing Walker ?

No ? Blimey ...

Anyway - it ismy intention to do such a thing for my big biplane (yes I know it's glow powered - but you can forgive that !)

So how to do it ?

Well as you see - I'm lucky that she has banded on wings, even though she is reasonable size.

We need :

a) Clear plastic stiff sheet.
b) Suitable 'Barbie' doll (mine will be about 5" tall ....)
c) Clear fishing line
d) Black narrow tape as 'reins'
e) Small screws.

Basically the clear plastic is cut to provide a base plate to sit under the wing bands. Clear so it is not seen unless close up.
The Barbie doll is screwed to the plate standing feet apart as in real Wing Walkers ...

Once sited on wing .. we then have to create the 'reins' and steadys to keep her in place. The clear fishing line is used to create 4 lines going out to the wing band points to hold the Barbie in position upright. Two lines are led from clear plate forward to wing band points to prevent that from moving in airflow.
The 'reins' are added last - from her outstretched hands forward to the wing band points ...

All the lines and 'reins' can have simple loops in so be able to de-rig quickly.

Now that I've triggered some imagination ... how's about other additions people can come up with ?

My Barbie I hope to combine with smoke at later date ...

Nigel

Yep - fully expected !!

Models 4kg and well powered - with big surfaces .. so she should be able to do it ...

The Barbie is not profile but she's 'well rounded' !!

I suppose a profile one would be better - but then you lose the frontal aspect approaching the flight line from side ...

I wouldn't trouble myself with the clear plastic. Real wingwalkers use braces nowadays. Here's one I see regularly at the local airshows.

Ahhh.... Girls, twirling on poles, on airplanes.

It doesn't get much better than that!

Growing the fleet!

Now if you could make Barbie walk along the wing, and transfer to another biplane in flight, that would show those boys at the field .
