Default maiden video of the night flyer, one of my best vid's to date

fantastic day, flew about 10 flights.. 8 this afternoon and attempted 2 more as it was getting dark. i am so amazed at how easy orientation is with the lights on. to bad i only had one battery charged for the flight. the second battery was already used and i didn't know it till lift off with very little strength, just enough to do a quick landing.
all went well with this bird. lights are very bright and not blinding at all once flying. the video doesn't do it justice as the colorers blur together like most vids are of night flying.top and bottom patterns are very obvious from a distance. she's balanced without adding any weight to get cg right.
she doesn't like 15mph+wind like this afternoon had but this flight was perfect with calm wind around 5 to 10mph.

will post more vids Sunday night if the winds die down.

it's only 3 minuets long so not to boring. stu

thanks gramps, the flight was the perfect ending for an otherwise annoying day. i really wanted to go again with the second battery as it would have been really dark at 5:30.

batteries are all charged up and ready to go if the winds die down Sunday.

what really surprised me was the key chain camera on my hats visor finally lined up right for following a plane in flight...it's been hit or miss filming that way

i'll post another vid with more rolls, inverted, and closer fly bys next time.

I was wondering what you used to record the flight that key chain camera worked good. I will have to try and use the gopro with the head strap and see how it works. Nights up here have been cold with light wind just haven't felt like going out night flying myself. Might have to try tonight it's warmer today and the wind might be doable.

Night flying is so much fun. When I was at SEFF I did more night flying than I did during the day.

Awesom Job Stu. Loved the video. I have not been night flying in a while. Going to have to break it out this weekend, maye the evening of Veterans Day. You have also motivated me to build a 3D kit that has been sitting in the box for almost 2 years Add some lights to it and have more fun at night. Again Great Job!! Looking forward to some more vids

Happy flying may your crashes be limited and if they are not limited let them be cool.

thanks my friends, sitting here watching the game[nyg vs oak] and will be going to the workshop to add a switch to the night flyer to turn the lights on and off without staring at it to plug in the battery.this way while I'm walking to place it down for take off I'll turn it on without even looking at it.....walk away ,turn and fly without having spots floating around.

also I'm ordering a few smaller 3cell batts to power the lights separately from the main power pack,if i throttle up to wot ,the lights dim.......wouldn't want lvc to spoil my night flying.

I'll post pictures of the switch after it's done. stu

thanks for the compliment tony,i haven't been out much with it after the maiden, maybe 3 evenings in the dark. the cold kills it for me and i hybernate in the man cave building over the winter.

i will admit, the flying at night is awesome fun andthis bird is beyond bright. no problem with orientation. i would think an even cooler vid would be to fly over snow and low at night.

Little photography tip here, if your camera has the function (nearly all digitals do), lower you exposure compensation by a stop or so (-1) this will darken the sky, but your plane won't get washed out and the colors will show better.

"Give a man a plane and he'll fly for a day.
Teach a man to build a plane and he'll fly for a lifetime"
