Smile Today's lesson

Despite air temperature of 36 degrees and random snow flakes, I went out for some airtime with the Super Cub.

All was good for my first battery, getting used to the ailerons, several rolling takeoffs, working on low, slow passes to mimic landings etc.

Second battery not so good. About 5 mins in, when she's at the far end of the field, the motor sound changes and the nose drops. I thought perhaps I had mistakenly put in the previous battery. I bring it as close as I can, but the landing is a nose over.

Do the long walk, swap the battery but not getting full throttle. Then no throttle.

Not good but by that time it is actually snowing.

Come home to discover the set screw on the bell of the motor had come loose and pull of the prop pulled everything forward.

Pop it out, add a drop of blue Loctite and put it back in place.

All good.

Took the time in the shop to work out my aileron/flaperon programming as well. Now I have flaps!

Hopefully I can fly tomorrow and to test the changes!

Flying more, crashing less. Feels great!

After having a little 250 motor leap out of the plane while I was doing as simple run-time test I became a fan of Locktite. Take new motor out of box, apply Locktite on all appropriate fasteners.
