Talking Hobby People HP Quad

After watching and flying a couple of Nick King's quads I decided to pull the trigger and order one of the HPHELI Quad RTF Multi-Rotor while they were on sale. Hopefully it will be a decent cheapie!

Take care and thanks for posting at WattFlyer!!

It got here last night, nothing to assembly. Played with it in the porch last night and decided to run a battery through it this morning. Did really well until I lost orientation and the wind carried it into some large oaks across the street from my place. The LED's were lit up this morning and I could see it in the canopy of the trees about 60-80 feet up.

When I got home from work this evening, no can see..... Arrrrrrgggggg! I just got back inside hoping to see a bit of LED light in the dark.

Take care and thanks for posting at WattFlyer!!

Don you all ready lost your new quad on the first flight shame on you. That bites nothing worse than a quad or plane stuck in a tree, and not getting it down.
Break out the fishing pole and start casting. I got really good at it in my rookie years.

Well hope you get it back that really does stink to lose it like that.

Gramps was ready to do that and can't even see the blasted thing! No idea where it went today. The limb it was in is over a gravel road and it's been windy. Hoping more leaves fall off the next couple of days and I'll be able to spot it.

Take care and thanks for posting at WattFlyer!!

What stinks is the oaks hold onto the leaves for a long time. Good luck hope it comes down for you, and not in the road.

Spotted it up about 50' in the tree on a Saturday morning. Casted for several hours with no luck, got 60' of PVC pipe and tried to get it out. The PVC kept bending over upon itself like a bow. I was able to pop it a couple of times with the pipe but it didn't come down.

Climbed the tree but this old fat guy couldn't get high enough to reach the limb it was about 20' out on to cut the limb off. I decided to top the tree and a buddy has my chain saw and after hanging on with one hand, sawing with a ancient hand saw with the other for what seemed like days I gave that up.

Fast forward to Sunday, I got the bright idea of taking the PVC pipe into the tree and try getting it from up in the tree. Nope, didn't work either. Heavy winds were forecast for Tuesday so I decided to wait and see what happened plus I had a conference to go to for a couple of days.

Returned home Tuesday evening and went outside to see if it had blown down. Nope still in the tree. I figure that it was time to either give it up or call Hobby People and tell them my tale of woe.

Take care and thanks for posting at WattFlyer!!

Reminds me of first plane a Sky Fly II third flight it was windy, but not bad. Half way through the flight wind was blowing hard. Of course I had that thing down wind couple hundred feet off the ground. Fought the wind got the plane half way back to me then it went out over the pines. These are old growth pines big and tall went into the top of it and stayed there. I must of went back and walked into the woods about dozen times. I could see a little red up there each time just taunting me.
Never did get that plane back, but I did learn a lesson that wind and trees were not my friends.

Sounds like your in the same boat time to buy another one to ease the loss.

Hobby People got back with me and they gave me a nice replacement price on Quad number two even though it was my fault for the thing flying into the tree. It is supposed to ship today and get here by next weekend.

This time I need to be like Nick and Dave and practice-practice-practice until I get the basics then fly the thing several feet away instead of doing the opposite.

Take care and thanks for posting at WattFlyer!!

While waiting on the new HP Quad to get here the one stuck in the tree actually got blown to a branch low enough so that I could reach it with a long stick and I got it out of the tree. The storms that caused so many tornadoes last weekend up north last weekend rolled through this area too.

I shook out all the water and then let it dry a few days then inspected it last night and felt it was dry enough to attempt to test fly. It worked as if it was right out of the box!! A true WOOOHOOOO moment!

Take care and thanks for posting at WattFlyer!!

That's excellent you got it back now practice on the one the tree gods gave back to you. Save the new on for when you are proficient with it.

Who am I kidding just ship me the treed one, and keep the new on for yourself.

Your quad skills are way above this little guy. This is more along the line of my skill set which would be zero with quads.

LOL! The new one has the camera, since they cut me an excellent deal the camera was worth the extra few dollars. John, if it survives, I'll bring it to SEFF for yea. Nick will probably head down there a few days before I can.

That is if you're going again this year!!

Well, Quad number two was on the porch tonight under one of my wife's garden Gnomes. The postman didn't want it to blow away with a cold front coming through. As you can see, it's well packed and includes a set of extra props, wall charger, screw driver to open the battery compartment, radio, battery, USB plug for the camera, and just about everything you need to get it into the air.

While I was putting the batteries in the transmitter I plugged the 1s 500mAh into the wall charger so it could charge up and I could play with the thing in the house for a while.
