Default Battery for Electrifly Super Sportster rxr

I am in the process of considering the battery size for this plane. My only experience is with the Apprentice which came with the 3200 battery. The SS specs call for an Electrifly 1300 3s 30c which weighs 112 g. I have abundant room for a larger battery and am considering the HK 1600 3s 20C which weighs 122 g. and would fit in the plane. How much would the extra 10g affect the planes performance? Is the extra flying time of the 1600 worth the extra weight? Or should I stick with the 1300? Anyone have experience with this type of trade-off? Opinions? Thanks. Gary

Checking your model, it's supposed to weigh in some 10 or 12 ounces. IMHO, you'd never notice another 1/2 ounce, unless you're doing 3D flying or something. Just double check the cg location on the larger battery, so you don't wind up nose heavy.

you will never notice the extra 10g, like Denny said, recheck the CG,

I may be getting Older, But I Refuse to grow Up I am Having to much Fun to Grow Up LOL

Thanks Dennis. I just checked the Great Planes website and they say the plane should weigh in at 20-22 ounces. I think I'll probably go ahead and get the 1600 (if I can ever get through to HK. Their website continually rejects my phone number as "invalid", and a number of "chats" have thus far failed to resolve this.) Gary

I fly mine with various 1800 mah batteries including the Flyzone standard battery with the Super Tiger connector. I have a ST to Dean's adapter so I can use my GForce 1800 batteries. CG is spot on with these pushing the battery all the way forward. I get around 8-9 minutes on my batteries but have my timer set for 8 minutes so I have enough juice left to go around a couple of times if the runway is occupied.

Only thought that occurs to me is spec calls for 30C pack ... and OP is proposing a 20C pack.

1.3 x 30 = 40

1.6 x 20 = 32

Now Chuck flies the model as well .. would the reduction to 20C cause any reduction in motor drive ? I know it would in various of my models. And Chuck .. it would help if you quoted more than just mA .. the C rating is very important, as that increases - the weight significantly rises.

In fact I have increased C rating against factory spec to get improved result in some.

The C rating of my 1800 mah batteries is 20-30c depending on the brand. The Flyzone is 20c while my GForce batteries are 30c. Very little difference in the two that I can actually feel in flight. I find that what some people believe is bad CG or battery placement is actually their failure to MECHANICALLY trim their plane before they attempt to fly it. I just saw it this weekend. One of our advanced beginner pilots was complaining that his FZ Corsair kept climbing and was convinced he needed to add nose weight to balance it. Further inspection showed his elevator was trimmed in the "up" position. We trimmed his plane properly and the issue was resolved.

I think there is a difference between 20 and 30 C. When I got my switch, I bought a 25C, but also ordered a stock battery which is 15C. The difference is huge, not so much the speed but the punch. I can crack the throttle on 25C and instant power, 15C lacks the oomph. I have a 45C too, even better. 10 C does make a difference I feel

If your close to ghe limit the battery can handle, a higher c rating will make a differance. if your pulling 10 amps out of a 100c pack, you'll probably be pulling 9.8 amps out of a 25c. now if your pulling over 25 amps, the 100c will make a differance, depending on battery size...

i was lookng at one a few months ago, and i too decided on a 1800mah battery. but if a 1800 will work, a 2200 should as well, and i have tons of those

let us know how yours flies.

slow stock prop reversal. it flies! easily! 543 watt dual motor bipe slow stick. push-me-pull-you. 242 watt 3 channel slow stick. 365 watt mini ultra stick. 415 watt mini contender. 810 watt ultra stick .25e. 220 watt alpha 450 sport (retired).

You really have to fly the plane with different batteries to actually know. You may feel it in the Switch. I don't feel it in the Super Sporster. I don't fly it with 2200 batteries in it because there is no need. 1800 mah batteries are called for in this plane and with them the CG is spot on. This is a VERY light, small plane. It doesn't take a big battery to make it fly fast or do great aerobatics.

More battery = more flight time. about 1/3 of the weight of my slow stick is battery. i doubt you would notice a 1 oz differance in weight. Some of my 2200's actually weigh less then my 1800's did.

obviously there is a point of dimminising returns, but ill bet a lot of guys that run an 1800 with an adaptar weigh as much as a $6 hobby king 2200. I'm not saying id fly it with a 5000mah brick obviously, although i did fly my slow stick with a 4000mah for a while. it was a bit much for the stock wing though.
