Default Eflite Mini Edge 3D - Motor Selection

I haven't yet but will read the power system selection sticky, but for now, I have to ask the following.

I am building a discontinued Eflite Mini Edge 540. U can see it here: http://www.e-fliterc.com/Products/De...ProdID=EFL2225

It comes with a gearbox and specs 2 different 400 inrunners for 'hi performance' and 'extreme performance'

I'd like to ditch the inrunner/gearbox idea in favor of an outrunner. The specs are a 450 890kv for 'hi power' and a 480 910kv or 1020kv for 'extreme performance.'

I have in my paws a 400 960kv.

Does anyone see a problem with at least starting with this motor? If so, what size ESC and prop combo are we thinking for speed? For 3D?

Thanks guys for your patience.

Look at something with the eflight power 10 with a 40 amp esc. swinging a 13x4 for 3d battery 3s 2200mah 30c or better. I have that on my Multiplex funcub. Full vertical with straight up and out of sight. Cub's ain't 3d machine but mine is a blast. And I can haul 5lbs sailplanes up.
You could go I size bigger but that may be to heavy.
Fyi Mount wing servo's and then Mount the motor before the other radio gear. Then set the battery over the cg . Put your plane on a balancer and lay servos where you can get balance with out adding weight. If you have a grass runway I would up size the wheels 1" bigger.
What kinda radio gear do yo have ?

servos and rx? I am not sure what it calls for but the same size and i would go with metal gear ones. Just because sooner or later you will be banging the box with the sticks. All of my mgs have lasted thru a couple of planes before they need replacing.
For you this would be a good rx

servos like this would work good for you.

A "400" is smaller than a "450" which is smaller than a "480"

While the 400 might fly the plane its performance will be anemic.

What you need to look at is watt rating and prop size in addition to the kV rating.
You can have 2 motors rated the same kV but very different watts and prop size. It takes more power as the prop gets bigger and this is actually what makes the airplane able to fly.
