Thumbs up helping the kid next door

my neighbor next door has been saving his bucks for a plane (he is 11 years old ) 3months later all he has is 50 bucks. so I came up with this plan, I'll give him my dx-4 from my HZ supercub &build a trainer from 6mm depron with electrics from headsup . I just need some good ideas for a trainer. I looked around & could not find a high wing set of plans. I want him to have a good start in this hobby

Look at the plans here and adapt them to what you want to build, using the foam instead of the coroplast.

Free plans link in the top left of page: Click "Free plans" then go right and click "Index" to see them all with pictures.

The 3 plane pack from Flitetest might be a good start too. http://shop.flitetest.com/airplane-k...eed-build-kit/

They are supposed to be pretty easy to fly and quite durable. You can buy the kits from that link or download the plans here http://flitetest.com/articles/nutball-scratch-build , http://flitetest.com/articles/FT_Flyer_Scratch_build

It's not a traditional high-wing trainer but they're simple and cheap.

Here is a Quick build Slow Stick that flies great, from 1 sheet of 20" X 30" foam Board, some 3/8" and 1/4" square basswood, a little balsa wood and some epoxy, I know the person that made the plans and built it I still have this plane too, Take care and have fun, Chellie

Check out a plane called the Blu Baby, 33" foam build using a blue wonder motor. Can be built for under 50$. Very easy to fly trainer and almost crash proof.
Taught myself to fly with one. It's a very slow floater.

BTW I did mine with the 32" kfm wing, made the build even easier than trying to roll the camber into the wing.

A little update on my progress. I pulled my dx4 out of mothballs & the throttle stick is broken, I didn't do it the wife and the cats aren't giving any answers. So its off to horizon to get spruced up. I have decided on a champ (small enough to fly at a school field 2 blocks away) the lhs carries parts for it easy to fix. I already have a buddybox cord sothis should go good.

update, the new year thing didn't happen ( grandma does a sleepover for a bunch of kids new years eve). took him to the lhs & got him his AMA card yesterday. also spent some time on their flight sim ( much better than mine) he learned a little. I'm happy he told me he doesn't want to fly without a buddybox until he feels good about flying.

For those that are looking for a tough and inexpensive plane, Crash Test Hobby has one called the Pelican. It is a 36 inch wingspan made out of EPP foam. Very low piece count, and very easy to build. Flies with an inexpensive 28-12 motor. I have the larger Albatross, and it flies slow and easy.
