Default Blast From The Past.......Stingray Delta .40

Here is a delta that I built and flew 20 some odd years ago. It flew awesomely and I had an OS .46ABC rear exhaust in it!! Was as fast as a Q500 but way more aerobatic. You could slow it to a crawl and it was still very stable and controllable. I even put one on floats!! It flew as well on floats as it did on wheels. I am going to search for my core templates and electrify one. I'll let you guys know how it turns out!

Cheers

Thanks for the welcome and the power suggestion Chellie. I was thinking along the lines of:

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=7069

That plus a 60 amp Plush ESC. I plan to use a 4S setup with about a 13x7 or 12x8 APC. Should be in the 800-1000 watt area. WAG weight is at 4.5 lbs giving me around 200 watts/lb. Should be good, even on floats. :-)

Cheers

Hello All

Have finally cut the cores for the Stingray Delta. I went for this motor to power it:

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=4911

I figured I did not need a 1150w motor after all for a 4.5 lb model. I am going to add a rudder to it as the original did not have one. I am going to add a small ventral fin to it as well as I am making provisions to put it on floats!! I will be sheeting it on Sunday as our LHS is closed until Friday night.

I'll try to take some pics as it goes along.

Cheers

Sprightly performance!! This motor puts out around 700w.........depending on which review with what battery. I'm going to try 4s to start and maybe go to a 5s battery for it. I have just finished sheeting the wing and I doubt it will be any more than 4 lb AUW. Power to weight should be in the 175w/lb range so it should be sprightly! I'll try to get some pics over the next couple of days.

Cheers

Thanks iflyrc. I will if I can find my video camera!! All the balsa sheeting is now done but I still have to cut and sheet the vertical stab/rudder. I'll keep up the pics in the mean time. BTW the channel on the left wing panel is a hotwire "oops". My wife helped me cut the cores and it was her first time doing so. Did a very good job other than the one mistake. This will not be seen once the covering is on.

Cheers

MJ

Update.

I have cut out the elevons and installed the leading edges on them. I bevelled both the elevon and the wing a la pattern builds and I am capable of over 45 deg of travel. Next is to join the wing halves and cut the motor mount from the wing cores. Pics will be coming for this part.

Cheers

Hello All

It's been a while. I had to get out of the monsoons up here on the Wet Coast of British Columbia so spent a few weeks down in the desert near Palm Springs. Got in some really good flying there. Anyway, I'm back on track with building the Stingray aned will try to remember to take my camera with me to the shop today. It is actually getting close to covering. Went to Morrongo but not to the casino. I'm not much of a gambler........I leave that up to my wife.........she's the lucky one. We did go to the outlet mall right beside the casino though. Once again my wife got to indulge in her hobby...........shopping!!

Take care

Well guys, and Chellie, I forgot to take my camera AGAIN up to the shop and the thing is covered and just about ready to fly. I am in my upper 50's and the old noggin doesn't quite work the way it used to. Either the aluminum pots or my mis-spent youth. I'll take the camera to the field for sure.........

Cheers
