Default Kontronik Pyro Motor question

Just got an email from Espritmodel.com for their $$$$ Kontronik motors. This one has only an 8 mm shaft for a 10KW motor. The motor only has 14 poles. Just can't visualize a 28 inch diameter prop on that size shaft.

Am I correct in assuming these motors are designated for helicopter use?

Yes, that's a heli specific motor. The shaft is long because it's designed to be supported at the end by a bearing that is mounted in the frame of the heli, so it doesn't have to put up with the bending moments that you get with a prop. I have a similar spec motor in my 700 size heli.

Heli motors are also higher Kv than similar power fixed wing motors. The one you linked is for 12-14s and has 480Kv, so up to around 25,000RPM... far too high for a direct drive prop that's big enough to take that sort of power.

You could use such a motor in fixed wing with a reduction gearbox.

Hi Ron

NO THAT IS NOT ME!

Looks like this guy copied my question and pasted it into his own thread in this web page.

Very strange.

Question, should I notify RCGroups on this issue, and if so, how?

To be honest Denny, I had already reported that post before asking you about it here. Within 10minutes it was moved to the RCG bitbucket.
It's not the first first post, copy/paste message I reported. Annoying.

Why they do it, I don't know.

Hi Ron

Thanks for the tip. At least the guy could have slightly reworded my question

Denny, at 10kw, you might as well just pony up for one of the ford ranger ev motors made by simons and hook it up to your car .

slow stock prop reversal. it flies! easily! 543 watt dual motor bipe slow stick. push-me-pull-you. 242 watt 3 channel slow stick. 365 watt mini ultra stick. 415 watt mini contender. 810 watt ultra stick .25e. 220 watt alpha 450 sport (retired).
